WD hitch set-up advice..

Hi,

I bought and am in the process of installing an E2 Hitch, Trunnion style to my TV/TT setup and need advice as to my procedure.

TV is a 1970 F250 4X4 with a Class III hitch rated at 600/6000 without/WD and 1000/10000 with WD.

TT is a 2013 Cougar 21RBS with advertised tongue of 500 and dry weight of 5285

I followed the instructions and this is my outcome of my measurements:

TV disconnected, Front = 42 1/8 Rear = 40 3/4
TV connected/No WD Front = 42 3/8 Rear = 39 5/8
TV connected w/WD Front = 41 3/4 Rear = 40

Instructions say that the rear connected w/WD measurement should be slightly lower than disconnected but noticeably higher than connected/No WD.

FYI: The trunnion bars are parallel. The TT is almost perfect level. I have the max number of supplied washers in the spacer rivet.

Interestingly, the passenger side trunnion bar has more tension on it than the driver's side :confused:

On a side note: For the past 2 years I have towed the TT without a WD hitch not realizing that I was beyond the spec's of the Class III hitch. Not until I joined this forum did I realiaze that the tongue weight and TT weights given were "DRY" weights!!!! :eek: Just call me lucky!!

I had that hitch. Your numbers look good. You can tell you are transferring weight to you front tires. Your bars are parallel to the trailer. The only question I have is what does trailer is almost level mean? If trailer is level, or slightly nose down you are good. If it is nose up, you need to drop your hitch down a bolt hole. Also based on your numbers, you have good tension on the bars, this will greatly help with sway. Remember there is no need to remove bars to back up, and yes they will make noise when turning while going slow. This is perfectly normal

Pressure on 1 bar more than the other is most likely due to setting up on uneven ground and is also perfectly normal

The only question I have is what does trailer is almost level mean?

When connected to the TV with the WD installed I placed a level in the TT and it shows that the TT is level - front-to-back.

That only works if the road you are on is also level. Try measuring the trailer frame to the ground in both the front and rear. If both measurements are the same then your trailer is level traveling down the road
