View Full Version : Battery Box For Golf Cart Batteries

I am moving to using two 6V golf cart batteries that will sit end to end in the tray behind my propane tanks. The battery tray on the TT is 8" wide and 23.5" long. The only boxes I have found are the white plastic one for around $50 and the locking black diamond plate one that is over $400!

Has anyone found something else? I'd prefer it not be white, something not as flimsy as the white plastic one and not as expensive as the diamond plate one.

Thanks

Hello, are you looking for one box to fit both? They're a little pricey even in black. I saw a good selection at our Interstate battery store, if you have one nearby. Or, these guys have a few in stock if you have one nearby http://www.batteriesplus.com/ . There's always Amazon
Good luck on the hunt,
Joe

The 6V Trojan T105 is 7.1" W x 10.3"L x 11.1" H so 2 of them should fit the battery tray. I went to a Marine parts and supplies retailer to get my battery box. It is made of heavy, white polyethylene and came with a lid. I checked out West Marine and they have a variety of black polyethylene boxes suitable for 2-6volts -- cost about $95.

Yes, I would like one box for both batteries situated end to end.

The one at West Marine is too large for the battery tray. I'll check Interstate. Thanks for the help.

Here's the one I bought. It may not fit your support rails, but they can be changed very easily if there's enough room on your tongue without interfering with the propane tanks.... "back then" it was $59, now it's up to about $89. Just "gotta love" inflation :(

I have the room for it behind the propane tanks but not in the trailer's welded on battery tray. Would I just fill the tray with a piece of wood and bolt the box to the wood?

That would be a very simple way to do it, or for a more secure way to protect your new battery box and batteries, have someone weld supports on top of the existing ones (or cut one off and reweld it so they are further apart so the box will sit down into the space).

If you do use a wooden block, make sure you secure it to the metal tray so it won't move around in the space.

Good Luck,

Thanks to everyone for the assistance, much appreciated.

I decided to just go with the white plastic one from Century Plastics. It's a perfect fit for the factory battery tray. Keep it simple right?!

dmullen, Howdy;

You can always paint the White Box, rough it up with some sand paper,
wipe it down with acetone or brake cleaner, ... hsssssst, hsssssst, hssssst
any color that suits your fancy.

I am going to try one of these

Plastic Truck Box (https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=plastic+truck+box&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aplastic+truck+box)
You can find them in many sizes, somewhat insulated, should be durable enough. I am going to put some 3/4 ply down as a base.....
Won't know until spring how it will work out.

Sorry for reviving an old post, but thought someone might benefit......

Make sure it has good ventilation, the batteries will emit some explosive gasses that can build up in an unventilated box.

I'm doing this:

Got the box from here:

http://www.allbatterysalesandservice.com/browse.cfm/4,573.html

That box holds two T105's. You can get boxes for other configurations, like more batteries and side-by-side or end-to-end.
