We have a Dometic 15k BTU Brisk Air II unit in our 5er. Does anyone have experience using two honda EU2000 generators running in parallel? Will that configuration start the AC unit listed above?

My two Smart Tools with Yamaha engines will do that. Just be careful of what else is running on electric.

I never tried the Honda's, too rich for my blood. However my single Champion 3100 inverter runs our 15K AC unit with no problems so I would think 2 2000's would work just fine. A "hard start" capacitor helps if they struggle.

What size (watts or amps) are your two generators?

Does your 3100 supply enough amps to run a coffee pot and/or micro with the ac?

Each EU2000 produces 1600 watts, combined thats 3200watts which should be more than enough to start and run a 15k unit. Honda has a chart you can consult on the outputs so you can do the math

It did fine with our old camper (2011 coachman) running the AC and the microwave. We have yet to try it in the new camper and it has a bigger microwave but both have same 15k AC units.

We run our 15K A/C using parallel 2000W Hondas, they start and run the A/C quite well.

2000W each.

Thanks for the feedback, it is very helpful in our decision-making regarding the generator.

Yep. I have the two Hondas and runs AC quite well. Just watch your power load and don't run microwave, AC, and a hair dryer all at the same time. Ask me how I know

saw this at our local BJ's wholesale club this weekend.
Champion Power Equipment Portable Gas Generator with 3,500 Running Watts, 4,000 Peak Watts.
It was on sale for under $300.00. But I wanted to see what the powers that be thought of it. I know it might be loud at 68db's. BUT for that price and its got the 30RV plug I wondered.
I am sure it would be gone by today with the bad weather we are calling for here in central NC.
I am thinking as a backup for the camper. easy to store under truck cover and use on the road if need be. Main AC is 15K and bedroom one is 13.5K
thanks

Byrdr1,

We have that same Champion generator. A number of members do as well. It's not as loud as some other "construction generators" and it's a reliable source of power. Filled with fuel, it weighs just over 100 pounds, so getting it in and out of a truck bed, especially lifting it over the fifth wheel hitch is not an easy task. We can run our 15K A/C and the microwave with no problems, but I wouldn't consider trying to run two with that small of a generator.

We have gone to the Champion 2KW generators, only because of weight and lifting them in and out of the truck bed.

The price of $300 isn't that far off the regular price at Tractor Supply and Camping World. In fact, you can get it for $299 at Camping World, on sale at the current time.. With the 10% Good Sam discount, that makes it $270 plus tax. At Amazon.com, the price is $328 with 2 day prime shipping (if you're a prime member). There's no sales tax at Amazon, so it's about the same as BJ's.

Another low price source for Champion Generators is Blain's Farm & Fleet.

Blain's is where I bought my Champion 2KW inverter generators. They have them on sale, occasionally, for $499. I can still "kick myself" for not buying them when Sam's was clearing them out 2 years ago for $238 each.....

Amazon does collect sales tax from those of us in Texas, and possibly other states.

I picked up a Harbor Freight Predator that's close to the same size for $299 as an emergency home power generator after selling our two Yamaha 2400is ones and going solar on our Montana. It also turned out to be much quieter than I thought it would be and I took it with us last year on our nine week junket to the southwest just in case we needed AC while stopping overnight dry. Never had to use it, but it will pull the AC without even acting like it's under load.

Wow John.. I would have jumped on those also at that price. Blain's has been very good so far and always check them when buying anything. Amazon is not always the cheapest anymore.

Thanks John,
I think I will go back by there and see if they have any left. We never lost power with the sleet and ice but they still might have gone out the door really quick. My wife and talked about it and she said she thought the price $264.00
So with NC tax of 7.5%, $284 dollar out the door.
thank again

I have been looking at the Champion 3100 Inverter generator, but the 1.6 gallon gas tank seems kind of small.
I see that the Honda's have an external fuel tank that can be added to their units.
Does Champion have something similar?
Or can I just use the Honda brand on the Champion?
Thanks.
Steve.

Noticed that some are talking about 2kw and others 3.1kw or more. Something to consider is that RV air conditioners come in basically two sizes. I could run our old TT's 13k btu on a single Yamaha 2400is with no problems, but that single generator would die under the starting load of our Montana's 15k btu AC. If you've a 13k AC, you can get by with a 2kw generator, but you'll need a minimum of 3kw to start a larger AC. Most of the current load is on start up, but even once running the two sizes of air conditioners have significantly different current draws.
