We are retiring and hitting the road. We like the Montana and we are leaning seriously toward a Silvardo 3500 HD SWD. We will be making our purchases in the next two months. We look forward to learning from the pros and the forum seems to be the best place to get first hand knowledge. My parents have a Newmar RV and have been full-timing for 15 years.

G town,

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search for a new Montana and a new truck to tow it. I would urge you, since you're starting from "scratch", to carefully evaluate the weights of your new trailer selection against the capabilities of the "yet to be purchased" truck. Some of the new Montana models have empty pin weights approaching 3000 pounds. If you add a washer/dryer, propane, batteries, generator and personal items to that pin weight, you can easily overload a single rear wheel one ton truck. We have a couple of members who have purchased small or mid length (not the longest or heaviest model) Montana High Country (the light weight version) and find that they are at their max payload with their SRW one ton truck.

Now is the time to evaluate all the numbers and make the right choice in tow vehicles, not after you buy believing a one ton SRW is big enough and happen to run it across a scale to see how much "more you can add"..... :)

Good luck with the search and welcome to the forum !!!!!

Don't forget, if you buy a brand new truck there is a break-in period before you can pull a heavy load with it.
