Heat air flow in bedroom

I recently brought my new 2015 24RKSWE Cougar in for some warranty work. On of the things I wanted the dealership to do was check the airflow from heater to the back register in the bedroom. I found that no air was being blown out the bedroom register when the heater was on.
They responded to me that they found “no restrictions but the bedroom is the longest run and it changes directions and sides twice to miss tanks etc. which slows down air flow (none) counted five 90 degree turns.”

I was wondering if I just have to accept this response and issue with my trailer or should I contact Keystone directly.

I would tell the dealer your not satisfied with their findings and tell them to escalate the issue with Keystone. I find its best to let the dealer try first, and if they claim the factory said "live with it, working as designed" then I would contact Keystone directly.

5 90 degree turns is excessive in my opinion.

I have never seen the heat duct run in my trailer. I get heat in the bedroom, the force of air flow out the vent can be felt. It is much less than the vent closest to the furnace. The middle vent is in between the other 2 in air flow. As would be expected. All together the trailer stays warm for us. Your saying no air flow in the bedroom, that would be a problem. Have you held a tissue or something similar above the vent and seen/felt no air flow? Just asking how you know there is no air flow since you did not say. Did the dealer and you stand there and check that no air was flowing from the vent. One would think Keystone and dealer would not say that is OK. When I have had work done the service guy and I check out what the problem is and again after.

That is good advice. I have put my hand over it and didn't feel much. When I start it up I will definitely check that out.

For what it's worth, when I had the same issue in our Cougar XLite, the dealer said they would check it out, but that Keystone's "test" is placing a tissue over the vent. If the tissue moves, the airflow is adequate. For our bedroom vent, the tissue fluttered a little even though you couldn't feel any flow with your hand, so Keystone said its up to their standards. Apparently we have different standards... Not happy about that, but Keystone wasn't going to approve anything under warranty. So, I have plans for next summer to drop the Coroplast and see what I can do to fix the situation myself.

Keep fighting! We had a customer last year with flow issues ( not a Keystone) and the factory said "adequate". His persistence paid off In the end. Larger (CFM) unit and new ductwork.

I am definitely going to check it out. it seems that they should be able to figure out a system to get adequate heat into the bedroom.

Access the furnace and check the outlet ducts. I had removed the wooden cover which was located under the fridge when I was checking for mice. I found the flexible duct that supplied the kitchen area was cut almost in two ( a bunch of wiring was run right thru it!). It was a quick fix with some aluminum flashing and high temperature duct tape. Click on my name and check out my previous postings as I included a pic. Hopefully it's a quick fix for you. If everything has been checked and fixed for leaks. Replace your floor registers with adjustable floor regesters.

Hi Randy, When you say adjustable I am assuming you are saying the registers you can close and open like in your home correct? if so that is very good advice?

I have had a similar problem with low air flow to the bedroom.
I discovered that the duct that runs under the steps was crushed a bit.
I am installing wood steps as seen in another post and I am also installing a second vent with larger duct work to the very front off the bedroom boxing it in and insulating it. Mine is a toy hauler, nobody ever sleeps back there in the garage so I sealed off the heater vent to it.

I know this is an old post, but I experienced this same issue and just changed out the vents. I found similar vents at Home Depot which could be adjusted. So I would turn the vent closest to the furnace almost all the way off forcing the rest of the air further down the run....

I have owned 10 different 5th wheels and none have hardly any air flow in the bedroom vents, yet the bedroom in all of them was always warm and I use my rigs in some pretty cold temps. Keep in mind it is only a 12 volt fan in an RV furnace and it only spins so fast. Also, the bedroom in most units is higher than the rest of the coach and of course heat rises. Last, while there is not much air flow, normally the bedroom is a pretty small area to heat.

The suggestion of getting adjustable vents is a great idea.

you can easily throw a book or towel over a vent too. i cover one vent in our bedroom at times this way.
