So after 2 years of use and several recalls the cooling unit has failed and the fridge is worthless now. The only thing it's good for is a pantry. These things are royal junk. There should be a class Acton lawsuit forcing norcold to replace or repair them, or refund some of the thousands of dollars people spent on these things.

So instead of chasing a lawsuit which will get you nowhere why not simply turn the negative into a positive and buy a new fridge? :)

I take it it's out of warranty? If so, there are still people out there that can repair it. Granted, the number of people that know how to repair and recharge the ammonia-based fridges are far and few between, but... In my area, the few that know how to reside in the nearby Mennonite community. Local RV dealer claims that they can't be repaired. *shaking head* 'Course, he'd rather sell you one than refer you to the guy down the road that repairs leaks and recharges the system for around $120. There are a few different things that can be the problem, though, and depending on what it is, you might be throwing good money after bad.

Maybe I should sue my barber because, after all, he's been cutting my hair for 25+ years and now it has turned gray?:p

You're lucky !!!! My barber made mine stop growing, then he made what's left start to disappear.....http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/jobs/barber-smiley-emoticon.gif (http://www.sherv.net/)

Sure it can be repaired. But why would I pay 1000.00 or more dollars to fix a piece of junk when I can buy a brand new piece of junk for 400.00, and use the old one for storage? Lol!

Here's a few less expensive alternatives to the $1000 repair costs:

$650 http://www.rvfridgehouse.com/CUPricing.htm

$925 (lifetime warranty) http://www.rvrefrigerator.net/norcold_pricing1.htm

Replacement of the entire cooling unit is a relatively uncomplicated task for someone with reasonable mechanical ability and a free afternoon. You will need an assistant to help with the "bulky" parts, otherwise, it's just a matter of taking your time, READING THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST (unreasonable I know, but necessary) and not rushing through the task.

I guess my point is i shouldn't have to replace anything in a fridge that is only 2 years old.

Have you discussed the history of the unit with Norcold/Thetford? There is a 2 year warranty on the refrigerator, possibly with the issues you state you've had, they may consider extending the warranty to cover the unit further?

If not, maybe your dealer has some ideas to help?
