This is NOT a question that would ever pop into my head, but apparently it is one of those "stay awake at night questions" for the DW...

She's worried about the carpet on the bedroom stairs getting worn and dirty... Do any of y'all do anything special to keep the carpet looking new and clean.... or like me  :yawn:

Nope! Regular cleaning kept my last carpet looking new for 13 1/2 years before I sold it.

You could always put one of those tacky plastic carpet protector runners on it. That will keep it looking new and tacky for years. :D

I hit mine with the beater bar on the vacuum everytime we bring it back no matter if I am doing a full cleaning or not just to keep it fluffy.

don't have stairs, but to keep carpet in bedroom clean (and linoleum in rest of RV), shoes are removed at door and floor/carpet swept/mopped/vacuumed regularly.

Javi, nothing extra on our part. The wife vacuums it along with the rest of the carpeted areas.
I added the second step last year so that carpet is newer by 1 year over the older carpet. Our camper was 3 years old in october.
Both look better than the carpet by the kitchen sink counter top but that had something to do with a fire. :(

I own a Bissel steam cleaner, and based on where I go camping and time of year ( mud, dirt) I steam clean my carpets. Otherwise it's regular sweep/mop and vacum.

Well, we've kept the clear sticky (tacky according to SkiSmuggs but I don't find it so) carpet protector on the stairs since we bought it. We also keep the area just inside the door covered as well as it seems to get a lot of use. If I had my way there would be no carpet in the entire rig but it is what it is.

My in-laws have a 07 5er. Their stair carpet still looks fine after 7 years of use so I would say just normal vacuuming & get a good night's sleep.

My wife and I have decided (especially my wife)that no one will wear shoes in our trailer - we take them off at the door, and ALWAYS wear socks, which is preferable to bare sweaty feet. My brother-in-law refused to do this, so he is not invited into our trailer. :)

Forgot to mention, that the dog gets wiped down before he comes in as well.

I actually installed a runner in ours that matched the front entry rug. It is attached the stairs so we don't trip on it during the night and it stays put.

I make the dogs take their shoes off, but we do nothing different than in our stick home. :) Just vacuum regularly, and shampoo every six months along with regular maintenance.
Still looks just fine.

Thanks for all the replies, maybe she'll sleep a little better now. ;)

For us, we have one of the trees below that we keep on the patio just outside the door. Shoe go on the tree before you go in the camper. Works great and I just set in inside the door when we get ready to travel. It's under the awning so everything stays dry. I'll admit, as much as I always hated the style of them, crocs have become my shoe of choice for comfort and ease when lounging around the camp site, they are very easy to slip on and off.

You could do like we did and replace with wood steps.

Brilliant! I know what the DW (AKA The War Department ) is getting for her birthday.

We take our shoes off at home, but not when in the trailer. Wipe feet, floor mats, vacuum frequently and relax.

Interesting we take off shoes in both the sticks and bricks and the Condo on wheels.
Just Keeps things easier to keep clean. That was one of the reasons for the Oak steps, we store our shoes under them.

My wife bought a roll of clear sticky plastic from Campers World and it is working fine. We take our shoes off but we can't train the dog to wipe her feet yet.

No one comes into our trailer or home with their shoes on!

Whitehat, your comment made both Brenda and I laugh out loud. Nothing like taking all the fun out of camping so that your carpet will look "new" for years to come. I simply cannot imagine telling all the people that hang around out unit that they can't come in unless they take off their shoes and then put on a pair of socks.

Because of my wife's hip replacements we do not want anything on the carpeted stairs that could cause a tripping hazard. At our stage in life safety is more important that extending the life of the carpet.
However, we do keep slippers by the exit door and change from shoes to those upon entry.

Carpet is replaceable. Friends aren't. We welcome anyone in our home or trailer, however they are shod.

well,i must be a redneck!!!i dont own any slippers,my wife tries to make me take my shoes off when entering camper and i do.but if i need to use the bathroom i dont remove my shoes unless they are muddy.she puts a towel on steps(great trip hazzard)so the towell sees any dirt.she tries hard to domesticate me but we have only been married for 37 years!i also cut deer meat up on counter top in our home.ya gotta draw a line in the sand somewhere or they will have you take a shower to enter the camper, and speaking of showers ,she sqeegees the complete shower everytime she uses it,and i use the campground shower cuz i am not gonna do that each time !!!!!!

I guess that's the difference in our camping styles (and our friends). I have a great group of friends who have never minded taking their shoes off to enter my trailer, and I do the same for them. Mutual respect for each other's property. If they're really friends, they won't feel put out at such a simple request. And I'm selective about who I call "friends" and who I allow into my rig. Perhaps my law enforcement background has made me a bit more paranoid than some, but I would never consider opening the door of my personal area to just any yahoo that happens to show up at my campsite with a six pack. :D

I did similar to what Rhagfo did.... not only to save the carpet but ours had only one step. I didn't remove the old step I added a second step which makes it easier to go up and down. Each step went from 9 1/2 inches high to 6 3/4.
