Scissor jacks. Wow

Noticed that the scissor jacks on my Laredo have two of the nut driverlugs one size and the other two are a smaller size. Also one jack is not bolted with four bolts but one is a drive screw. O well.

There is a recall on Passport trailers relating to the screw fasteners that attach the stabilizer jacks. Apparently, rather than use bolts with nuts and lock washers, the factory attached stabilizer jacks with self tapping screws that (I believe) were too small for the application.

There is no mention in the recalls section about any 2013 Laredo models being affected, but you may have a similar problem, just at at "recall proportions".

My Cougar had two 1/4" bolts with nuts and two 3/16" self tapping screws per jack. I replaced that hardware with 5/16" bolts with nylock nuts. I've had no movement of the rear jacks since doing that.

Even with the recall on earlier model years, my 2015 Passport has 2 self tapping screws and two nut and bolt fasteners holding each scissor jack.

When pulling one off to install a bracket for my sewer hose, the two self tapping screws broke. Both already had rust to the center of the screw diameter, so I suspect they were over torqued. BTW: They were #14 (~1/4" diameter) not the 3/16" self tappers. Must have been a design upgrade.

Why they would continue to build the same way after a recall nearly 9 months earlier is hard to understand.

My Premier had a recall as wel. Never looked at them but had them checked out the last time I had it to the dealer, all was fine.

Since the lugs are different did they give you 2 different tools to use them?

We are talking about screws or nuts/bolts to hold the stabilizer jacks on the camper frame, not the size of the lug to operate the jack. Keystone has never given anyone a tool to tighten the screws/bolts that secure the jacks to the trailer frame. Are you thinking of some other lug?

After reading this, I went out and checked mine out. The rear 2 are bolted onto "L" brackets that are welded to the frame inside and outside rail. Front 2 are also bolted to "L" brackets, only welded on outer frame rail and have 4 self tapping screws thru the frame. I will be pulling out the self tapped screws and put in bolts with lock nuts.

The way it was worded sounded like the drive lug to operate then jack and then he went on talking about how they were connected to the trailer.

I have seen two different "nut" sizes plus the "hook"

This is what I was responding to about the recall on Passports. It does appear that he also may have two different drive screws as indicated in bg71361's photo. Hmmmm

Yes this correct on the scissor jack having self tapping screws instead of bolts and the the drive lugs are different on two of the scissor jacks.

OK so now I am totally not sure. First I though it was the lug/bolt that operates the jack then I am told how it is connect but now we are back to the operation. So my original question, did they give you 2 different tools to operate the jacks or can you only use 2 and need something else for the other 2?
