Removing LED light fixture?

There's some mods I want to do that would be easiest if I pulled down some LED lights so that I can run extra wiring through ceiling. The problem is that I can't figure out how to remove the dang things!

There's one of 'em mounted in shelving, directly under the stereo, so by pulling the stereo I can see that they're attached with 4 screws (ends of screws come up through wood into stereo cutout). But, I can't manage to get to the heads of the screws on 'em.

Does the trim ring pop off, the frosted dome pop off, or is it one of those situations where once the dome is snapped in place, it's permanent?

I've done some prying on the edges of the dome, but it's such a tight fit between it and the grey trim ring that I can't even hardly get anything in there to try to pop it out, and the trim ring doesn't easily pull away from the ceiling either. Of course, I haven't tried prying on either too hard because don't want to break stuff or accidentally rip the thing off of the ceiling.

Has anyone here dealt with these newer LED light fixtures that Keystone is using on some of their rigs and know how to temporarily take one down?

Wow, no one has answered you about this. I don't really know, I have not seen any lights fixture like that. I do have one similar in the stick house, and it rotates off, did you try that? Just about 5 degrees and then came straight down.

I could swear I've seen that fixture. If you can wait until Monday (my next work day), I will take a look in the new Outback's we have on the lot... and if there is one, I WILL figure out how to remove it.

@chuckster - Sure, no hurries. I've been considering buying a few from trekwood to have more light in the bathroom and other areas (kitchen is awfully dark and could use a few of 'em too). I looked and we don't have any on the lot. Conferred with my fellow tech (25 yrs in the trade) and we are pretty sure the lens needs to come out. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I do appreciate it. I figured it was the lens I needed to focus on. It's such a tight fit that it's a bear to even get anything in there to try to pop it off. I'll keep trying, though and if nothing else wait on those mods until I order some extras from Trekwood and can look over one that's not yet installed.

Your welcome. Just got another outback this afternoon to PDI. Gonna start on it in the morning, we"ll see what it has.

I got it sorted. The lens covers are just a super-tight fit.

If you look at the leds, they're in a bit of a square pattern in the fixture. At the corners of that square of bulbs, the lens cap has small tension ears (a total of four ears) that snap into grooves under the trim ring. Those corners are where you need to get a very slim tool in for prying (2 slim tools is even better, one to start the removal and one to slip in for more leverage when it gets started). I used one of those tiny flat blade screwdrivers (like they sell for eyeglasses and such) on one of those corners to get it started.

Once you get that cover off there's easy access to the 4 screws that attach the fixture to the ceiling.
