When we were looking to purchase our new RV we wanted a min. 45 gallons of fresh water. A big selling point on our Passport 2890RL was the fact that it has 3 / 30 gallon holding tanks ( Grey, Galley & Black ) We add an additional 30 gallon fresh water tank under the bed next to the existing tank. We lost a little storage, but now have 60 gallons of fresh water. We camp at least every other weekend and have plenty of water for showers and dishes. We have yet to run out of water even on 3 day weekends.

Cool, you can never have enough water when dry camping..

Very good, of course I cheat and connect a hose at the site so I don't run out either, lol. Glad it is working out for you.

If the fresh water tank is full, that's an additional 240 pounds near the tongue. As long as your tow vehicle and hitch are rated for the additional weight, you shouldn't have any troubles. Other than that like Java said you can't have too much water when dry camping.

rkeiser, that's a great idea! We also have three 30 gallon holding tanks in our 248RKS. While camping, at state parks with only electricity, for two weeks in Sept and one week this month, I realized that we didn't use anything that was stored under the bed. We have to be very conservative to make 40 gallons last for two weeks. Having extra water would be a wonderful idea. Would you tell me how you hooked up the plumbing and what tank you installed please? Also pictures would be great. Thank you and welcome to the forum:wlcm:!

I ordered a tank identical to the existing tank. I added an extra outside fill so that I could fill much faster. Without an additional fill the second tank would have to fill via the 1/2" water line that connects the tanks. I also ran my vent tubes out the bottom of the trailer, this gives me better venting & the water dumps out the bottom when the tank is full. I added a tee connector on the suction side of the pump as well as to the existing drain line to connect the new tanks drain & suction line . Water is used equally and the gauges functional as original.

rkeiser, thank you so much for the info and pictures. This will be my next mod when the camper comes out of storage in the spring. I really appreciate all of your help. It's amazing to see all of the cool mods that people come up with on this forum. I love this place!(tx)

Has anyone added a 2nd tank in the underbelly or replaced the original with a larger one? Was it worth the effort?

Also looking to increase the size of the tank or add a second one. Currently mounted underneath near the rear.
