Anyone had any luck replacing the string in their day/night shades with a different type? I have seen fishing line suggested and heavy kite string. Just wondering if they worked for the long term. Just replaced my large window at the back the second time and went to pull down the large one by the dinette and it broke. Too frustrated today to do that one too. They seem to only last about a year. My strings weren't too tight but they still fray. :banghead:

I purchased the string from fix my blinds.com

On my second restring of one shade (first restring failed in record time) I decided to try using waxed lacing twine, which i just happened to have available. Six months now and still no fray.

Sounds good. I'm gonna have to make a note of that, remember where you got it from?

I usually just take a piece with me to the local blinds for less or whatever blind store and they will typically just give me some off the roll for free. I've only done this for blinds in the house but I can't see the blinds in the trailer being much different.

I wonder if the fraying occurs from the teeth on the mechanism that holds it in place? Don't some blinds have little rubber stops there so that the cord doesn't get chewed up?

Ours in the house break from the cats...not sure why they like chewing on strings so much. :P
