Pretty cool idea, might just have to make one of those.

Or...you just plug the flasher...#552...into the trailer plug. A lot easier then wiring something up.

I'm with CPaulsen!

I keep a #552 flasher taped to the king pin arm and I have marked the two female sockets on the connector (with white paint) so that anyone can see where to plug it in.

The reason I have this readily available is in case of an emergency. In a large campground, fire/police/ambulance might have a hard time locating your trailer in the dark. Just tell the 911 dispatcher when you call that they should look for the trailer with the flashing lights.

In case of a medical emergency time is critical and I have shown both the DW and DS how to plug in the flasher if necessary. Of course, it helps to have it taped where it will be used so that it is easy to find in a tense situation!

I dont know why this guy did so much work... just plug the flasher right into the power socket and the marker lights next to it.... BINGO all lights outside the RV flash... I have been doing this for years... not only if I have to leave my RV on the side of the road but when I am boondocking it makes it much easier to find in the dark of the night....

The article did mention that the flasher could be plugged into the power socket, but recommended the elaborate method because of polarity of the flasher, The flasher may fail if the polarity is reversed. Anyone want to test how long the lights flash before the flasher fails or the battery (s) go dead? However, the 552 flasher may be able to work no matter the polarity which it is used.

This does seem like a good idea even for those of us who are semi-perm in a campground. Would plugging the flasher in work while shore power was powering the converter?

Yes. The marker lights are totally separate as are the tail lights and turn signals. Shore power can not control them.

So Steve, would I plug the flasher into the umbillical that would attach to the tow vehicle?

I do believe that was what was stated earlier in the thread.

This summer I was camped next to a FW that it's marker lights on while connected to shore power. The owner had a gizmo that plugged into the trailer connector that made this happen. If I recall it could also be set to flash. He gave me the package that it came in and now I can't find it.:banghead: It's around here somewhere, but where. I'll find it, but only when I'm not looking for it.:D

I followed your link but did not find anything about flashers. Where did I go wrong?

You have to use the older posts link at the bottom of that page. The article on this jumper/flasher trick was from January 2011 so you will have to page WAY back to find it. It's been around a long time.

Steve, I just went back to the web site and discovered the older posts only go back to November 2011. I guess it is lost forever.

Thanks,
