New Rear Racks for Generators and Bikes

I posted a picture in another thread back in July of my new rear racks but I never showed them loaded for travel. We are leaving for a week so I finally got around to loading the generators and see how it all is going to work and it will be exactly what I was planning.

Both generators will be able to run as mounted and be connected so the A/C can run all without removing them from the racks. We wanted this so that when we are on the road if we want to stop and leave the dog in the trailer, we can run the A/C. I will add a couple pictures once I put the bikes on their rack too.

How does Woody keep his hat on?

Oh yeah nice set up, do you have it fixed so that both generators are in tandem and power the 30amp side of the rv or 50 amp? or will one run the AC unit?
And do you get into trouble on the left coast state covering up you license tag with the genny?

I am reversing the bracket so the license plate will actually be above the light. I'll get a picture up once it's done.

Oops, I missed this part.

Our trailer is a 30amp. Unfortunately we bought this trailer when Keystone fist came out with the Cougar High Country. They didn't offer 50amp units in that first year nor did they put a vent in the bedroom ceiling. I had though of adding a separate circuit and a BR A/C but I never pulled the trigger.

In any case, I can run the 2 EU2000 generators in parallel so I can get roughly 3,500 watts and it powers the A/C and everything else quite nicely.

Looks great Poppy, My only comment other than "good job" would be to ask if you have some way to cover the generators to protect them from rain/mud and especially from "prying eyes" ??? It would be very frustrating to stop at a WalMart for milk and bread and come back out to generators missing :( Honda doesn't really have a "thief proof" way to secure them..... Otherwise, I'm impressed, when will you be in Michigan to do mine <wink> LOL

Each generator has it's own chain which is padlocked to the tray and then the entire tray is covered with a black vinyl BBQ cover.

Nothing is on the rear bumper. There are 3 receiver tubes passing through the stock bumper, just for looks, that are welded to a whole "H" frame welded into the trailer's frame.

Another awesome job Poppy. I've been contemplating a way to set up my 4500 on a rack for the same purpose. I have a lift that puts it in my truck behind the hitch, and it work fine, but have to then run two cables to reach it as my electric comes out the back end. I'll get it done, you inspire me to do so. :D

A couple answers / comments:

Absolutely love our Specialized bikes. We've had many bikes over the years and these are our best so far (in their price range).

I just set this up yesterday so I haven't rigged a way to carry the electrical cord while moving but I don't really know if I'll ever be doing that. The idea is if we are stopping somewhere on the road for a while, like to tour something, we can run generators for the A/C for the dog but then I would shut them off before we move along. Our puppy rides in the truck when we are underway.

As far as vibration in the trailer when the gens are running goes, I'm sure there will be some. I had them running yesterday but failed to go in the trailer :banghead:. I may do that today. I don't expect it to be much though. Especially if the trailer is level and secured with stabilizers and SteadyFast system, etc. If it were too much and we were camping I would merely set them on the ground while we are on site.

I run a Cougar 322QBS and the rear slideout bumper has a tag that states weight limit 200ib. I talked to Keystone customer service and they replied with 150 ib so my best guess is somewhere in this range. I'm assuming your trailer is setup similar to mne

I had a 2800 watt oman genny in a AF990 truck camper. That was louder than the Hondas to begin with. That the genny was about 6 ft from the dining table. The vibration and noise was unpleasant while inside the camper. But it could not be removed at ran. Better than not having a genny. TV would need to be on highest level to be listened to.
In this case having the A/Cs mounted to the unit makes sense due do to the needs of having the A/Cs working for the dog or while stopped for a short time. For me, I really do not want a genny mounted on any RV again. In the truck bed they echo off the bed sides making them louder, I tried that also.
I have cables and locks, with the suitcase size yam 2000, I plan on sitting it on the ground behind the RV to run it if needed for a short stop. In the woods it goes near the bumper or further away if it can be locked to a large tree.
