First Travel trailer, ops I meant TT

Hey Fellow campers, getting ready to travel 360 miles, one way, to pick up my first TT this weekend. It is a used Bullet 281BHS. I hope it all turns out good, because if I dont like it and return without it, my doors my be locked and my wife and two daughters will throw my belongings outside.:eek:

The original owner told me they took two trips and then stored it on some property they own. He checks out to be a professional type person, but just didnt use the TT. I got a great price, but you know what they say about things that are two good to be true!?

My buddy who is an experienced camper, and got my family into camping is going with me to help me out. I have been shopping for over a year! I almost bought a new Passport 2920 a few weeks ago, but when I went 400 miles round trip to check it out it had a dent on the front cap! This has been a long search, hopefully the camping Gods are looking down on me this weekend!! He says it is in excellent shape, although it has been sitting for two years, so I am already concerned about the tires and bearings, etc.

Wish me luck, I need to search for a used TT check list......

Welcome to the forums. I would use the same PDI list as a new one. Just because it's been sitting, doesn't mean everything shouldn't work.

Having a printed list will give you the option to at least look at everything and in a moment of excitement not forget to look at what matters.

Cosmetics may not be completely up to snuff, but with list in hand you can check off the big items as you go.

Welcome and that's a good idea to bring someone to help look it over, I would still spend afew hours going over ALL the systems, let the owner show you how they work or if he says he forgot try them yourself, maybe go thru the manuals if you need help, hope he kept them. There was one from keystone and every thing put on the trailer not buildt by keystone such as A/C, stove, etc...

I see you found the PDI checklist. It's pretty thorough, so take your time and follow it and you should hit on everything that "really matters" in the RV.

Don't forget to take your tools. You'll need a way to tighten (torque) the lug nuts, check tire pressure, and tools to open/close access ports/covers as well as electrical tools to repair/modify any of the trailer/tow vehicle connections.

If you have it, an air compressor might be a great thing to carry with you this trip. Every screw (well the ones that will matter) on your "new RV" will be a Roberts #2 square drive, so don't forget to grab one of them or some bits for your Apex driver.

Make sure you find/locate the adapter flexible extension for the slide. You'll need it in the event of a slide failure. Chances are you'll never use it, but if you don't know where it is, that's when you will need it....

Yeah, you want to plug it in if possible. ..well definitely plug it in!...sitting 2 years...you will definitely want to negotiate on the price. $ It will be at least $50-75 bucks a wheel to repack the bearings....it's maintenence you need to do every year- no biggy.
Hopefully he has the owners manual and any warranty work that has been done...at least you can see what is still covered....u out be surprised on the things still warranted. Make sure you have a weight distribution system....and electrical tape plus some tools...Torque Wrench for sure!

Thanks for the great advice! We picked it up, checked it out, and pulled it 360 miles to our home. The camper was pulled twice in its life, and then sat on a property next to a river, and the inside still smelled new. Got a great deal and my family approved of the camper when I returned home.

Congratulations! We tried looking for used, but just wasn't enough selection in what we were looking for. Plenty of camping season left to get out and enjoy.

Be sure when you get back to take the time and really inspect the roof and seal any cracks and check for holes. It does not take much to let a little water in but it can do a lot of damage. Good luck, have fun and bring your patience.
