First tow with 6.7 diesel

Wow what a great feeling, worst part of the trip was trying to remember I was towing a camper. Got about 12mpg,( 5.7 got me 8.9), with only 600miles on it.

Congrats and enjoy. Just be careful, yours might be different being diesel but I was not to tow for the first 1,000 miles.

I was actually told many items on the break in such as the first 850kms towing keep it under 85, don't tow, you should break it in under a tow. I talked with the Cummins tech and he told me it did not matter, he took me to the spot in the users manual that stated, "due to the detailed construction of a cummins engine there is no break in requirement.

He added, although he personally would not drive it like he stole it in the first 5000kms, he would not think twice about towing 10k to 15k and had not seen any issues or long term effects on trucks that tow. Many come in with their trailer in tow leaving connected. For me today was about a 120kms. Could have been a sales pitch but the guys I the bay usually could care less if you bought or not.

I would go easy- but truck drivers do not run tractors empty to break them in. and they run there motors for 300,000+ miles.

I was surprised to find my new 2011 ford, 6.2 gas motor had full synthetic oil in it from the dealer. Not even a break in oil.

I had about 800 miles on it before I towed the camper for a 100 miles. Then towed again last night for about a 160 miles and had a 1000 miles on it at the start of that tow. Both trips were under 60 mph so nothing heavy or major hills.

That's a dually pulling a trailer any 1/2 ton can pull. I'm not sure your truck knew it was towing anything. :)

Second tow, the direction the wind is usually behind you, the 5.7 could get 11 MPG, the 6.7 was 14.8mpg.

I work for a Chrysler store. We had a trip scheduled and our new truck on order. Did not anticipate it being delivered until after we returned from vacation. At noon hour on the Friday prior to us leaving the transport pulled in with my new truck on board. After a quick PDI and licencing I drove my new truck home with the plastic still on the seats. The next morning we left for a 300 km trip with 16 km showing on the odometre. It wasn't until reading the glove box book later that day I read, "do not tow for the first 800 km". Oh well. No harm was done. Nice thing about working for a dealership... waranty for life.

Not bad numbers but please. There is no G in CUMMINS.
