OK, so late Tuesday evening, I started up The Beast (2011 F-350 Diesel) and the computer screen read "Check Coolant Additive". Every time it started that evening and the next morning, same warning. Off to Bill Utter Ford . . .

They checked the coolant additive mixture and found it was the proper mixture. They reset the sensor. I came, picked up the truck, and the computer screen read "Check Coolant Additive". Another appointment next morning. That appointment lasted all morning and in to the afternoon.

So, again, the coolant mixture was correct. But the shop manual is incorrect on how to reset the coolant sensor. After contacting the Ford engineers, the shop manager found out that the engineers admitted to omitting a crucial step in resetting the coolant sensor!

So, if you climb in to your 2011 Ford Diesel and the computer tells you "Check Coolant Additive", when you take it in to the Ford shop to get reset, ask them if they know about the omitted step in the manual describing how to reset that darned sensor. If they give you a blank stare, ask them to call the Ford engineers or call Lee at Bill Utter Ford, Denton, TX. It will save you a trip back!
