hey all, well we just purchased our new 2015 Springdale 282

Wondering a few things here:

1: should i replace fan with a fantastic one?
2: install covers over the skylights for when it rains?
3: Any mods people recommend?
4: I have x2 6volt batteries for dry camping, & am wondering about solar power to add to roof? any help on these topics would be much appreciated.

Also ive read about spraying the water connectors with a bleach/water mix should this be done every time i fill tanks, does it not harm the drinking water, whats the reasons for spraying?

Again thanks for reading & any future info/help.(tx)

:wlcm: from Oklahoma. Congrats on the Springdale! Hope you have a great time with it. We installed vent covers. As for the bleach water, it disinfects the water connections. That tiny amount will not hurt your water.

Vent covers are good, led lighting is a nice mod for dry camping or warm weather.

If you are using "city water" it already contains chlorine or chloramine so a little more should not hurt anything while not sanitizing may spoil a vacation and test the capacity of the black tank. In most cases it is not necessary to do this every time but at least once a season or when you have filled up from a questionable source.
Welcome to the forum. For your other questions check out the "Modifications and Upgrades" section of the forum. Travel safely, Hank

1. We replaced both our bedroom and living room fans with Fantastic Fans and the MaxxAir covers. The fans come with various options but we chose the thermostatically controlled ones. A bit pricey but well worth the investment. If you buy the MaxxAir covers, then you don't have to worry about any other modifications as you can leave the vent cover "open" when travelling or when it rains.

2. Not sure why you would want covers for your skylights when it rains. Do you mean the fan/vent cover? Any skylights I have seen are dome-shaped and would be nearly impossible to "cover". If sealed properly and without any cracks, they are waterproof.

3. As Hank suggested, go to the Modifications and Upgrades section of the forum for ideas on those. LED lighting, BAL stabilizers, cupboard shelving, etc., are some of many upgrades that people have done. Just too many to list here.

4. If you do some dry camping, adding solar panels is a smart idea - especially in conjunction with your 2 - 6 volts. I have one 85w but probably would be better off with another panel but this isn't going to happen anytime soon.

I've never sprayed water connections with a bleach solution before, during or after use. If you're concerned enough about creepy crawlies and germs then by all means go ahead and spray. I sanitize the FW tank twice a year - once at the start and again at the end of the season and use a water filter.

yes i did mean the vent openings not the skylight :)

I think i will just do the fw tanks twice a year then, im not sure im into spraying bleach around knowing me ill ruin my clothes and TT lol

I will look into installing x2 of those maxair covers one on bath and one on bedroom.

thanks again

The only reason I sanitize (with a spray bottle) the CG water hose fitting is that I watched a guy dump his tanks, then hook up his water hose to flush. After he had dumped, he proceeded to unhook his sewer hose (with bare hands) and then he unhooked the water hose. Then he 'rinsed' his hands under the tap. Maybe no big deal - but.:)
