RV Toilet Paper

For 2 years, we have used Scott's; 1 ply; off the grocery shelf. It stated "septic tank safe" and "RV Safe". Now, recently, they have modified their paper; still 1 ply, however; states "thicker" AND they say "Septic Safe" BUT have dropped the RV endorsement. I have checked every other brand in Publix and have been unable to find anything stating safe for RV's. Unless we are "forced" to; we do not want to buy from the RV dealerships or even the RV section of Wal-Mart where the cost of the roll is twice normal. :mad:

Who has an an alternative? Our 2011 model RV has the outside black water flush system. Wish to avert a potential problem versus fix one ;)

We just use the thinest paper we can find. Just be sure and use it sparingly and use lots of water. Water is the key to keeping everything flowing. Of course you could buy RV paper from Camping World that is priced like gold.

Exactly, "priced like GOLD"....and thus my info request. I have heard many "horror" black tank stories. Trying not to "be one";)

I was always told that rule of thumb was : Fill a jar half full of water, put in some paper and shake for a few seconds. If the paper breaks up it is safe for RV use. We have been using Scott and never a problem. As stated above .... plenty of water, although hard to do while dry camping, is the best way to avoid the dreaded pyramid. JM2¢, Hank

Now there is a helpful tip I have not tried. (But will). I never had any issue with Scott's. Just concerned because they now say it's "thicker" although still single ply. Appreciated. I do "water up" as a precaution and we do not "dry camp". Also, I use the black tank flush system frequently. Just trying to avoid an issue. I'll be trying that test on the new Scotts. Since I still have some of the "old"; I can do a comparison....yeah, that's the ticket:D

we use a garbage pail just for the paper and empty it daily. You don't have to use RV paper that way. I didn't like how thin it was. So I will take the garbage out in place. My what we do ..................

Okay, just tested the Scott TP and it still dissolves in the water.

Maybe I got an old package, but just bought it a week or so ago.

We've always used it - with this RV and our last one.

We use "Angel Soft" from Walmart, it says "Septic Safe" on the package and we've never had a problem. The test that Hank says to do is good advice. The "Angel Soft" passes Hank's test! Stay away from those that have Aloe added to it, those won't dissolve and will cause problems. Just because it's better for your butt doesn’t mean that it's better for your RV.

Water, water, water, and more water. We use the thick connonelle, never had a problem. As long as its wet, it will break down. If you can drive it for awhile and really shake things up before you dump, even better.

Seann I have to agree with you there on Costco Kirkland brand. I see the "Jar Water Test" at every RV show and the one that breaks down the quickest was always costco kirkland brand.. The cheapest brand doesn't always mean it will be save for an RV tank. In this case costco kirkland is a decent enough value and appears from the test won't give you any grief later..

Howdy All;

I use Scott's, I Fulltime, when I do travel I use the 6 bags of ice trick.

Dump and flush a few times... put about 6 to 10 gallons of water in tank.

ADD 6 or 8 bags of ice thru the commode.... drive around on some bumpy roads (campgrounds with speed-bumps), and make several left and right turns ....

"Scrubs" the tank nicely.....:D
