Full timing, insurance for stuff in storage?

We've sold the house and kicked out the kids! ;)

We're on the road full time now. What's left of our stuff is in a non-commerical storage. My existing renters policy covered a percentage value of belongings in storage. But since we no longer have a physical address in the state, our carrier won't write a policy simply for contents in storage.

I know at self storage places, it is possible to get insurance through whoever they use. But for a non-commercial place? Has anyone put their stuff into say a garage and found an insurer that could cover it?

You will find there are several problems for full-time RVers who do not have a domicile address. Insurance is only one. Specifically, Full-timers Policies such as from Progressive and Geiko, have a "goods in storage" coverage. However, I do not know if this covers non-commercial storage. We have a controlled climate commercial storage for the minimal "stuff" we wanted to keep.

If you want more information about domicile and/or a domicile address, you might take a look at the Escapees RV Club headquartered out of Livingston, TX. When it comes time to renew your license, vehicle registration, or to even vote (please, no politics here, just mentioned the "act of politics" - voting), etc., you will learn that there is a need for a domicile address.

Notice: Yes, I am an Escapees member and will be using the Escapees mail forwarding to retain my domicile in the State of Texas. The above statements about the Escapees are biased.

You might already know this but when we went fulltiming our usual RV insurance with our vehicle insurance company (State Farm) did not provide "full time RV insurance". We had to go through another company to get the necessary coverage. We also had stuff in storage (commercial). Can't remember if that was covered or not.

I have a full timer RV policy with Nationwide. It provides additional contents coverage for personal property stored in a locked non-commercial storage shed. That sounds like your situation. It does not cover property in a regular commercial self storage facility.

Well, we are "domiciled" in SD but our belongings are in our original home state of CO. Neither of our vehicle policies (Statefarm) can insure without it being an extension of a homeowners or renters policy, which obviously does not apply anymore.

We'll have to to check with our RV insurance (GoodSam) to see if they can provide additional insurance for storage, I guess.

We are not full timers but snow birds. We did down size to our summer home for six months and 5ver in the winter months.
The first thing we found is get rid of everything in storage. After paying for several years, we sold and gave everything away. The kids said " don't bring anything else to our houses" So lesson learned, stored stuff will most likely not be used again and will go bad in storage at a huge expense.

Do what it takes to get insurance. 3 Years ago we lost almost all of our stuff in storage because of an idiot that wanted revenge on his ex and burned the storage unit down and ours was on the backside. We had insurance that covered everything. A couple next door that had put their stuff in storage that day didn't, they were remodeling and was a temporary storage for 2 -3 months. Couldn't sue the guy because he went to prison. Get insurance most of the stuff we lost we didn't replace anyway but took the cash
