Covers for TT

Trying to pick a cover for a TT. Between Expedition ,Tyvek,ADCO. Need some words of wisdom from you guys I'm in the South Carolina not a ton of rain but hot summers.

You'll probably get a variety of opinions about the wisdom of covering an RV with one of the products you mentioned. There will be some who have used covers and have been pleased with the protection they provide. Others have tried them and have found that they can cause chaffing and other kinds of abrasions on the surface of the RV. After one year of use, they don't bother with them any longer. Some have tried them and found that in a strong wind they rip and tear easily.

A number of members have attributed delamination, bubbling and other similar issues to the build up of heat and moisture underneath the cover - especially in areas where the climate is hot and humid.

I believe the majority of folks would advise you not to cover your RV. If you consider the number of RV's sitting uncovered in dealers' lots all over the country then covering doesn't appear to be necessary.

If you were to carry out regular inspection and maintenance of your roof, windows, vents and other areas that need attention - especially caulking- and regular cleaning, waxing and polishing of the sides, front and back, covering shouldn't be necessary.

I cover mine during the winter only. I use it to much in the summer to mess with a cover.

I do keep it waxed and the cover would be on it a month or two at a time . We try to keep on the go ever couple of months. So basically don't invest too much due to quality of covers right. Thank you for the info.

If you want to cover I would invest in a good quality cover. I think some of the cheap ones are what gives RV covers a bad name. I had a $150 Expedition cover on my tailgating RV (profile pic) to keep our cheap paint job from fading the 9 months a year it sits in used. After two years it is falling apart and had rubbed some sections of the RV as it does not fit well.

Now on my Passport I got a good quality custom cover and had no issues this past winter.

I went with a CalMark Cover. They are a bit pricy compared to others, but they also have a 6 year warranty and are made to order based on your measurements.

We use the adco extreme weather, this is the second one we bought do to two different campers. they do well for a few years. keep in mind if you have gutter extenders on then take them off or tape with a washcloth. they come with stair covers that helps alot. We have only used them for the winter months.

I cover mine for the winter. It gets covered clean and is still clean when uncovered. As for dealers not covering their inventory, well lets just say with all the different trailers they have and the varying sizes they have how many covers would they need? Also very hard to show a trailer to a buyer when it is covered up. I use ADCO covers

And they are expensive for no longer than they last.

I cover mine when not in use with an adco cover. In Southern CA we don't get extreme weather but I found that leaving the cover off my trailer gets filthy dirty very shortly.

After rain in the winter (the little we get) I always take the cover off for a week or so to let everything dry out and air out.

I cover mine in winter only, too much heat under the cover during summer months and as stated before, there is speculation that the heat causes other damage. The thing I like most about using the cover is it keep sthe trailer clean and no gray streaks that have had months to set in. I use teh Adco covers as well.

I have used a adco and one other brand. And both didn't last or help it much. Most of the time it was covered in the winter or when I didn't use it. It's the sun that gives them the most issues. After 2 years and 2 covers my last 5er still had issues. Sun dried plastics and decals peeling. So the one I have now I built a metal cover. Now no sun or rain. I still do my normal checks and inspections. Depending on the size of your TT you can get a carport style fairly cheap. If you have room for one. Just my 2cents. Just search metal rv/carports. I build mine from wood and wrapped it with metal w/ cement. For 6k. It's 16 wide x40 long x14 opening

We live in an agricultural area and it's a dust bowl. Bought an ADCO designer series cover from CW. We liked how the cover helped keep the 5er clean, but, it was a job putting on & taking off. After about 18 months of intermittent use (probably about 1/2 of the time) the sun had 'rotted' an entire section on the west facing rear of the trailer. After reading so many posts about heat build-up and the resultant delamination, we just stopped using the thing. Regular washing and semi-annual liberal applications of Areospace 303 until we can budget a metal cover.
