Our first TT, picked it up Friday in OH in high winds

Drove from WI to eastern OH to pick up our first TT, a 2009 Outback LOFT.
It was in better shape than expected and I was SO excited...until we got on I-80 in those winds- WOW!!
What a way to break me in. I may never tow in winds that high again, but now that it's under my belt, besides the fuel mileage we're all good. Made it back home 8 hours later and been driveway camping ever since:D

Our first trip in it is coming up soon and we can't wait:)

On a typical tank of gas in the F250 we get about 300 miles, that day in that wind I got 75!
Once we are out of the wind the next tank we got about 175 miles.
So when people that tell you a diesel will get the same fuel mileage whether you're towing something or not, well that is ridiculous :-/

I'm real curious to see how the excursion does. I typically get about 600 miles to a tank (once we hit 700) and when I'm towing our 5000# (low profile) boat it drops to about 500 miles to a tank.

Gotta love the 44gal diesel tank on the 6.0L Excusions!

We were getting over 300 miles per tank towing our previous 7000lb Jayco TT, which meant that we only needed to fill up twice per day when travelling

keep your speed below 65MPH and you should see around 10mpg.
Mine got 9.5mpg towing the TT and jumped 10.5 average with the 5er???
Still havent figured that out but it does!

With 2 different TT's, my 03 Ecursion with the 6.0 gets between 9.5 in the mountains and 12.5 on the flats no wind. I usually figure on 10.5 MPG as good rule of thumb.

The 6.0 is real fussy baout RPM and mileage. Keep the RPM's between 1800 and 1950 for best fuel mileage. Over 2000 RPM, the fuel mileage goes down and quickly.

Just my experiences with 2 different 6.0 diesels and towing.

My trucks have never got same mph loaded or empty. But, this truck mileage is the same or so close it doen't matter when carrying a camper, 4400 lbs, pulling the boat, 3800 lbs or pulling the listed trailer, 7000 lbs it is right around 12. I stay at 55-60 mph on freeways and highways.

Guess we gotta slow down some because I believe we averaged under 8 MPG on our 2200 round trip to FL...VERY different that pulling our little 12' pop-up!!!

Pulling my Passport 2890RL at around 6500 lbs we get between 12 & 14 mpg depending on the wind. Empty I get 22.4 on the highway. "12 F-250 with 6.7L My tank is 37 gallons.
