Carbon 387 or others that will tow jeep?

Ok, right now I am looking at the Carbon 387. It is one of the only ones I have found with over 4000lb cargo area.

Is there anyother I should look at?
How much weight will the door Support?

My jeep weights in at just over 4000lbs. It is 74 inches wide and 78 inches tall.

You're correct, the Carrying Capacity is listed at 4,865 lbs, but that figure/number is the max weight capacity for ALL cargo/supplies added to the RV, not
strictly the garage (weight/cargo) capacity. Generally speaking, you'll find the same calculation/process holds true industry-wide.

Even "if" this toyhauler could safely carry your Jeep, you'd still only have "up to" (at best) 865 lbs for everything else... LP, batteries, food, water, clothes, etc, etc!
You might consider a car hauler with sleeping quarters?

You might need to look at the FR Catalyst line which are made for hauling vehicles. The minimum cargo carrying on that line is over 7klbs! I think you will find that the standard toyhaulers such as the Fuzion or Raptor are just not made for hauling anything bigger than a UTV. I think most of the ramps are rated at 3k lbs so you need to look at that as well.

Well going to look at one this weekend, Also looked at one from a different company. It has a 6067lb with a 16ft Garage. See which one we can get the best deal on. I had a Rep from Carbon tell me that the 387 would work for the jeep. I understand about weight. Most places I go have water there. So I will not be hauling water. Just close and food. So I know I will be close the limited. Like I said the other one has 6067LB so right now I am leaning that way.

Sales people are "in the business" to sell. As such, "whatever it takes" to "service the buyer" and get them in the "rig of their choice"...... Whatever it takes...... Remember, their "job" is to keep you happy during the sale, so if getting you into "a rig that works" will make you happy, he's all for "helping".

The pin weight on the Carbon 387 is 3360 empty. Add 140 lbs for batteries and propane, and it's up to about 3500 lbs. Shipping weight is 13135 + 140 = 13275 for an empty weight (with no options).

So the empty pin weight is about 26% of the empty weight.

Now, add 4000 lbs of cargo in the back and the weight jumps to 17275 and the pin weight drops by, say 1/3 (based on where the axles really are under the RV). So, pin weight is 2300 with a total weight of 17275. Now the pin weight is 13% of the total weight. That's about 2% less than the recommended minimum. In this case, extra cargo would need to be added in front of the axles to increase the pin weight to maintain a good towing ratio.

If the axles are slightly further forward, the pin weight will drop even further. It's not really a matter of whether there's enough cargo capacity to add the 4000 lb jeep so much as it's where the cargo must be added to maintain an adequate towing balance. There is a really good chance that by adding 4000 lbs to the garage, there's no way to add enough weight in front of the axles to balance the load and keep the pin weight in the "recommended range" while staying below the GVW.

I'd sure do some real world loading at a CAT scale before buying any fifth wheel with plans to add that much cargo in the very back end.

One other thing to check is that it appears they have a sticker in the cargo area saying the max load limit in cargo area is 2500lbs.

If, A gilpinbrewer said, there's a decal in the garage that says "Max load 2500 lbs" I'd sure want to know how he came to the conclusion that it could carry 4000 lbs. Spending $50,000 dollars on a trailer and then finding out it won't do what you were promised doesn't make for a happy day.

Just because it will "fit" doesn't necessarily mean it was engineered or designed to carry that kind of load.

Here is a picture of the 2500 lb max sticker in the garage of my Raptor 300MP was also the same sticker on the 2012 Raptor 297 SE and 300. I thought this was solely the capacity for the 10' garages. I assumed the as the garage sizes got bigger so would the capacity. Based some other posts that seems to be not true and it appears that regardless of garage size same weight capacity. Must be floor material :confused:

So in answer to your comment, no, unfortunately, it doesn't appear that you can trust a rep to give you accurate information any more than you can trust a salesman to always present the facts with regard to what they are selling.
