Watching the rain delay coverage of the Daytona 500 you get a look at the coaches these guys take to the track. Kyle Busch has a Marathon Coach. Looked as though it had 3 slides. Maybe like this one http://www.marathoncoach.com/inventory/inventory_detail.cfm?id=920&coach=1212

At 2.2 million that would be a luxurious way to travel the country!!

What crazy is most of them just sleep in them, and fly to the next track. They have a driver that takes the coach to the track for them. There's probably only a handful of NASCAR drivers that actually drive their own coach.

It makes sense. It's a nice place to stay…and they can afford it.

And can you imagine a NASCAR driving a motor coach through traffic?

Talk about a dream job, driving a coach for a NASCAR driver.

Yeah, but after you get there you have to go sleep at the motel with the other crew guys. ;)

Most of them are 2 year lease/loaners. They stay at the tracks because it is easier for them than messing with traffic and hotels.

Most of the coach drivers work for the teams during the week in some other fashion, PR, spotters, something.

If the NASCAR drivers drove their own coaches they would have to Google map their route with all left turns.

I was told by a Childress employee that during the season the coach drivers main job is the coach. Drive, maintain, keep stocked, etc. RCs driver is more of a personal assistant when not driving.

"If the NASCAR drivers drove their own coaches they would have to Google map their route with all left turns." :applause: :D

We have several PGA golfers stay at our park during the tournament and they all drive themselves. The PGA delivers them a car when they arrive to use for the week and then pick it up when they leave.

All kinds of units from older to huge newer ones. They are their homes for 6 months or so nearly fulltimers

:D Hank! If using a GPS they'd hear "re-calculate!" during most of the trip. ;)

Cabinfever - never fond of rain delays but it's fun to get a tiny glimpse into the life of the drivers & crews.
A year or so ago, we watched a special about NASCAR coach drivers... it also showed some of them as somewhat of a
"personal assistant" = uniforms, food/shopping, media schedule, etc. That may vary with different teams, but it was interesting.

One of Jeff Gordon's coaches was for sale about a year ago... I don't recall if it was on the Marathon/Prevost site,
or on Ebay, but it was advertised at his coach.

Way back when Geoff Bodine and most of the guys drove their own coaches.

Geoff went by us one day like his house was on fire. We were pulling a TT and doing like 70 or 75. He passed us at 85 or 90. My dad got on the CB and started giving the guy a hard time about flying up the road and as soon as we heard the voice we knew who it was.

Turns out the guys on the team had reworked his bus it had massive power.

Pretty funny talking to him going up the road. Nice guy.
