Hi all,

I have a 2012, 28' Copper Canyon 5th wheel. I just noticed the tires on the rear axle are wearing rapidly on the inside (both wheels). Tire pressure is maintained and wheels torqued as needed.

What is causing this.

Regards

Bill

Reckon it must be a bent axle.

Thanks all for your replies.

In your experience, is it better to go a Dexter axle shop or RV repair shops.

If it were me I would go somewhere where they do axle alignment or replacement, I replaced 2 on one of our old trailers myself and also went with a larger capacity, good luck..

If your RV is a 2012 model, your axles may still be under Dexter's warranty. Get the information off the axle tube (under the RV) and call Dexter customer service. They will need your VIN and purchase date. Maybe you'll get "lucky" and won't have to foot the bill ????? Who knows :)

BA,

Thanks much for the link. I'll get on it Monday - after I celebrate the Bronco win!

Is the tire wear on the same axle that you sheared all the lug nuts/studs? If so, it may not be a bent axle, it could well be a bearing issue/hub/spindle issue.

Yes it is as matter of fact. However the appears tire wear is even on both sides (inner). It does bring up another interesting issue. This axle has grease zerts so the bearing dont require packing. On the way home with the new trailer (20 miles) the end cap came off. Immediately took it a had them install a new bearing and bearing cap. Then it happened again a few months later. Incidentially this is a Lippert axle - not Dexter.

Thanks for you thought. Might be on to something.
