We had 4" and it was to close for me if the truck and trailer was in a dip in the road like going into a gas station.

And Also the trailer was a tad bit low in the front so I moved the pin box down one bolt hole and it then gave me 6" and set more level.

I sold my GMC 2500 and bought a F350. The trailer sat pretty level on the GMC and we had no issues towing. The F350 has less "squat" and the trailer looks to be bit nose high. I have about 6.5 inches of clearance between the tailgate and trailer. I can move the hitch up (lower the nose) but I would lose clearance. I haven't towed anywhere with the F350 yet.
Would you:
Leave it alone?
Move it one bolt hole?

With my setup (see signature), I have 8" clearance. Like others said, 6" minimum.
