Going up to GA in a few days for 7 nights of camping so I took my propane bottles out to get them filled both are 30lbs each.

One held around 27.5 and the other was 28.1 give or take
the total bill was around 42.50 is that a good price ?

Your total purchase of propane was 55.6 pounds. Propane weighs 4.2 pounds per gallon. That's a purchase of 13.2 gallons of propane. Around here, the average sell price is around $3.25 per gallon. Tractor Supply sells it for $2.59 per gallon. (or at least that's what the sign says)

The cost of propane varies widely from region to region and climate has as much to do with the sell price as does availability. Right now, I'm sure propane is selling at a premium around the heartland and east with the ice storms and cold weather.

You paid $3.21 per gallon which is about the same as this area. Most places will fill an empty 30 pound tank (7.5 gallons) for about $25-30. So your price was about the average for this area. This summer, that was about the average we saw throughout the central part of the US.

Check Tractor Supply the next time you're in one. It's the cheapest place to buy in this area. Might save yourself about $10 a tank if there's one convenient to you.

I've found that tank size (and volume of purchase) will impact cost at some locations. Our local dealer charges by volume when I take 2 or 3 tanks at once, but if I take just one tank, it's a flat rate regardless of volume.

the by volume rate is "significantly" cheaper for me here!

Mikell,

Check Tractor Supply. It's $2.49 a gal at the store here. I believe that's the "corporation price" and it's the same at all their Michigan stores..... Maybe it would be cheaper ????

Going to FL in. 10 days for 2 months :)
In GA. (Where we live) it's $22 to fill a 30 lb bottle. (Ace Hardware). Where we are going in central FL first stop, it 's $26.
For the xtra few bucks I am not going to haul that bottle out and drive it 6 miles roundtrip. I will re fill it at the resort in
FL. :)
Our local price at our private RV resort is $17 for about a near empty bottle. This trip the maintenance people are not going to be working when I need to pick up the unit. She is ready to go, back under her, raise rear stabilizers, walk around look see: interior look see, grab and run. Stop at 24 x 7 accessible air pump on property, check lug nuts , adjust air pressure and enjoy a coffee as I haul her off the mountain to home to load and run!
Memo to self: golf clubs ; bicycles; swimsuit; sunscreen, sunglasses, wine and beer. :) ohhhhh yeahhhhh! Heading south, WAY south .

$2.58 a gallon here at the local feed store. I'm not sure what the RV place three miles up the road charges.

The local TSC is about 10 miles or so away and the roads are good / bad. $67 for a 100# tank 23.5 gallons I think that's what it was the wife went in and paid while I stayed cool with the guy filling the tank. Heat pumps running today so I have it cranked to 80 inside. Might last a couple of more hours before the bottom drops out and the foot or more they are talking about will start to arrive
