I sold the GMC2500HD and bought a F350 diesel. The Ford had 11,000 miles on it and had a B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch. I bought a Curt adapter to go from gooseneck to my Curt 5th hitch. I wanted to be sure it fit. I have an engine hoist that I use to lift the hitch into the truck bed, so I used that to get the adapter plate up in the bed, then slid it in the square hole of the B&W. No issues there. Then what the heck, I hoisted the 5th hitch in the truck and it all looked good. Now, to get it all back out! I hoisted the hitch out and put it in its' spot in the garage. Now to get the adapter out. Hmmm...my engine hoist won't reach far enough to lift the plate straight up out of the hole. I used all the pry bars and scrap lumber I had to get the 100 pound plate up enough that I could pull it out with my old wore out back. Anyone have any ideas? How do y'all get that thing out of the hole? I thought about everything from jack bolts to a hydraulic flange spreader. Only real solution seems to be to buy some longer square tubing and extend the "boom" on the hoist. A little grease might help, but jeez that thing was a bear.

I have that same setup, only exception is the fiver hitch is a patriot. I have a piece of rubber bed mat under one of the rails on the adapter. I slide those out and wiggle it then it slides right out. The first time I removed mine it stuck as well. I have the bed mat material there to keep it from wiggling

Not to ask a stupid question , you did make sure the release pin on the bw gooseneck hitch stayed open and didn't lock back on accident before you were trying to get it out?

Put your hoist in over the side instead of back unless it's not tall enough?
Remove the tailgate if that's in the way?

Yeah I tried it from the side, it's tall enough but still too short. I couldn't get straight at it because the leg was against the rear tire. Also came it from the corner of the tailgate/tail light. I might do some measuring tomorrow and see if removing the tailgate will work. Thanks!

That's exactly what I thought at first! THE PIN IS IN!! I don't like the way the cheesy lock handle operates anyway. I got back out of the bed and looked...no it's out!
I'm thinking maybe a wire wheel to polish the female side then a bit of grease or Never-Seize on the adapter.
And a boom extension. I need it anyway. I don't like bastardizing tools but.....

How about a 2x6 across the sides of the bed and a come-along to lift the plate up enough to get a piece of tubing under it and then roll it toward the back of the bed far enough to get it under the hoist ?

You know....that WILL work. Give me an excuse to shop for a come-along. I've got a "wire stretcher" but that would be too long.
Thanks John!

LOL I was thinking a come along more like this:

http://www.harborfreight.com/1200-lb-capacity-cable-puller-30131.html

But if you can get the DW to "allow" you to spend upwards of $100, go for it... Of course you could "say" you spent the big bucks, buy the cheap one and use the rest as "mad money" when you need it <wink>

Actually, you could do it with a ratchet tie down strap (you've probably got several tucked away) and save the entire $100 for another purchase :)

I didn't have a thing to do today! Off to Harbor Freight and bought the come-along.
And.....a 32" pry bar, and a 4 piece pry bar set, and a car wash mitt, and disposable gloves for RV sewer work.
And....get me outta here! lol
It's worse than going to Sam's Club or Costco.

Is this going to be more than a 1 or 2 time thing? Do you have a garage, shop or barn? Buy one of the HF electric winches that mount to the ceiling. back truck under winch, attach cable/s, push button and let the winch do the work. Pull out from under adapter and lower it onto a dolly for moving around the garage or shop. Reverse procedure to install.

Yeah I looked at those. My garage is sheetrocked with no open joists. I don't want to start hacking into sheetrock. It's a "city" garage.
My friends ask: "what, no crown moulding?" lol
I wish I had a barn.
I keep eyeing that rolling hoist at HF.
