I just wanted to say hi from Mike & Ang. We are new to the RV scene and have just purchased a 2014 Laredo 294RK. Looking forward to using it. Is it crazy to think about our first time out going 12 hours away to Myrtle Beach???? Weather getting a little cold here to go close by.

Congratulations on your new RV. That's quite a rig for a "first time RV'er." I'm sure you'll really enjoy it once the fear of towing and setting it up subsides... LOL

As for towing it to Myrtle Beach before you ever use it ? That's a giant step to be taking with "short little legs" :) I'd strongly urge you to spend a weekend in it, if not at a nearby campground, then in your driveway. You really want to know that everything either "works" or you know how to "work around it" before you take off on such a long trip. I would be concerned about taking an "unknown" RV that far from support facilities without at least having checked it out, retorqued the wheels, doublechecked the furnace operation, made sure the slides work properly and all the hoses, chocks, tools I'll need are stored away where I can find them if the need arises.

There is a lot more to RV'ing than simply hooking up and towing somewhere. Knowing how to use the different systems and more importantly, how to still be functional if something is wrong are important steps to staying out of Motel 6 with your "apartment" in tow.....

Grab a 6 pack, a loaf of bread and a pack of lunch meat, head out to the driveway and spend a couple of nights in your new rig. You'll feel much better about that trip to Myrtle Beach...

Oh, and that 12 hour estimate in driving time from Akron to Myrtle Beach, you might want to add at least 4 hours probably more like 6 hours to that total. With an RV in tow, your tires are limited to 65MPH and you'll be very lucky to average 45 or 50 MPH for the trip. I'd plan on it being a 2 day trip.

HI and welcome to the group.
I just took a trip a couple of months back to myrtle beach from charleston wv this trip takes about 8 hours in a car it took right at 10 hours in the truck towing a trailer.
So just add 2 or 3 extra hours to your estimate and have a great time.
By the way what campground will you be staying at. We stayed at lakewood wich is right between pirate land and ocean lakes. It didnt have as good of reviews but we realy liked it and will definetly go back.

Thanks to all for the welcomes and the advice. We planned on taking our time and taking 2 days to travel. We are not 100% certain we want to take this adventure just yet. We just need to convince ourselves that there will be plenty of time to enjoy the new toy later. But we are kinda like kids on Christmas morning and want to play rather than eat....

We were actually looking at Myrtle Beach State Park. More isolated, a little less "busy".
