Dealer Responsibility?

Just curious? 60 days ago I bought a 2005 Keystone Outback Sidney 30'. I understand "as is" but does as is allow for the sale of an RV non road worthy (all 6 tires were 9 years old). I asked about the age of the tires and was not answered by the sales person. The result of this was that the RV was towed about 120 miles, 1 tire blew out doing about $1500.00 damage. Does the dealer have any responsibility for this?

Unless you have a used vehicle warranty law in your state that covers first 60 days, I would say not. Especially with tires. Sounds like new tires should have been negotiated as part of sale.

I'm sorry to say that "as is" means that the road worthiness of the trailer is the buyers responsibility. If you read around the forum I think you will find the general consensus is to inspect wheels and tires before every trip. Checking air pressure and tire condition along with keeping speeds under 65mph are the best ways to avoid tire failures.

I bought a two year old trailer and a tire blew on the second trip. Fortunately it didn't do any appreciable damage--but afraid "as is" means "as is." It was up to you to check the date on the tires but I know few of us (including me) ever does that. Sorry about the damage.

AS IS meas as is.........A question though, were the air pressures checked before you set out?...That seems to be as big an issue with tires as age.

I'd say out of luck:

you should have insisted they tell you the tire date, or verified the tire date yourself when you got it home.

If you were concerned about the age of the tires, why didn't you verify the date once you got it home?? Any tire shop could have either verified the tire age, or given you the instructions on how to determine tire age, it is very simple to do.
