Greetings everyone. 2005 Laredo has the wiring hanging down under the back corner of the slide out. It appears that there is a large spring screwed into the main RV frame and goes over and screws into the outside frame of the slide out. This spring appears to have rusted and broke in two.

Question 1) Will any spring work or does it need to be a Keystone ordered spring?

Question 2) Once the new spring is installed on both sides how does the two wire rungs attach to the spring? There is a single black wire about the diameter of an extension cord and then there is another small gauge wiring inside of that flexible wire conduit type stuff.

Thanks for everything...a picture would be awesome for answer to number 2 if you have one.

Any spring with the proper tension and length will work. Actually, if the existing spring is still present, using a couple of nylon "ZIP" ties to reconnect the rusted ends will suffice to keep you in business for another couple of years. The spring is there to keep the electric supply cord for the slide 12VDC lights and possibly 120VAC outlet (if you have one in the slide). The spring is not "high tech" and simply repairing what's there will do. If, however, you really want a new spring, go to almost any hardware store (probably not a big box store) and take the pieces of the broken spring so you can match them up with what's available. Using two, or three (or more) shorter springs with the same tension would be preferable over one that is the same length but is harder to extend or that doesnt have enough tension.

Simply attach the existing wires to the spring with "ZIP" ties and you're done.

Never liked the rusty springs. They will do the job, but always bugged me to see the rusty springs. Our 2013 Alpine has a flat piece of flexible black plastic that does the same job and does not rust. Great replacement so far not had any problems with it. If you plan to keep your rv you might want to take a look at getting some of the plastic from a Keystone Dealer?? Well thats my my 2 cents worth good luck with whatever you do. "bouncey:

Well had a similar experience on the super slide on our Copper Canyon. Put slide in getting ready to come home an found low hanging wires!

Mine was a long flexible strip with a shaft on the 5er side, and attached to the slide with screws and designed to flex, well it snapped in two places, the simple fix was to install hinges at the points it broke.
