What kind of caulking do you use around the metal cover that is on the furnace intake/exaust outlet on the outside of the trailer? Will silicone work, or do I need some other type because of the exaust heat?

I use Dicor products or something similar to the chemical composition. On veridical surfaces you need to use a non-leveling type caulk on the roof you would use a self leveling product. I have attached a link to Camping World page for the product.

In recommend Pro-flex rv sealant. Self leveling for roof application and lap sealant for vertical surfaces. Silicone will not last and will not adhere well.

TAZ silicon is not a good choice for that area. the problem is the temp swings and the flex when towing plus it will not stick well.. I would use and rv calking like what is used on the roof but not self leveling esp on a side surface... you won't like where it ends up :D
