Talking to a family member of mine, who is manager at a State Park with camping in Illinois. He was talking about how it's become a tradition at their park on the fourth Saturday in October for a camper Halloween party. Everyone puts up Halloween decorations and lights, setup tables for the kids to go around and trick-or-treat, and other fun things to do. One guy puts up a cemetery, with skeletons, someone else makes up a big batch of mulled cider, and some else makes kettlecorn. It sounded like a great idea, and when I went to reserve a spot, all reserve-able (this is a small park only 40 reservable sites - 55 total) sites were already booked - 3 months ahead time, and for camping the last week of October!

My wife and I like camping in cool weather, so it sounded like fun, but since we didn't get a spot, were somewhat tempted to try and start our own Halloween party by putting up flyers at our favorite campground, and see if we can start our own Halloween tradition. Figure it might take 3-4 years to get such a big following as the other park, but can't hurt and the worse thing that will happen is we'll being camping the last weekend in October. Kids would like it anyway, since this way they'd get 2 nights of Trick or Treats. Guess I'll have to make a Jack-O-Lantern Smiley.

Guess you could tell everyone your wife turned into a witch:)

My wife and I like cool fall camping. Makes you look forward to it reading all these stories about people unable to cool off their RV.

Several of the cg's in our area do Halloween themed weekends. They are generally a big hit. They are normally at the beginning of October as most of our cg's close by the middle of the month. I think the sooner you start getting the word out, the better your turnout will be.

We go to one every year in Michigan, it's actually the first weekend of October (probably due to weather). Some sites get really into it, and it gets bigger every year. They give away some pretty major prizes too (voted on my fellow campers). This year I've started collecting some black and purple themed items for this to be different. Aloha State Campground is a favorite, although there are many in the area. My 4 year old is already deciding on her costume and loves to trick-or-treat at the campground even more than at home. They also host a chili cook off the same weekend which is very welcome on those chilly fall evenings. One of our most anticipated trips of the year.

This is SO much fun...:rofl:We have done this also... In the pop-up group we belonged to we had ours on the last weekend before Halloween.. We had kid events plus. a site decoration contest. plus an adult washer contest. a chili cookoff.. the state park campground hosts were the judges and got to eat plenty of chili..Some one even made home made trophys, to give out.. but egos won out new clubs formed and the club folded after 4 yrs... But a couple of us were able to stay together, we camp together all the time and 2 years ago we took first place for site decoration at Carlyle Lake's, Il. Dam West campground. We changed themes this last year and didn't even place:eek: :( We couldn't even get a site this year. So now that there are 8 couples we will probable head to the Ozarks area and do our Halloween thing...
