Dish Tailgater

My husband really wants to get a tailgaiter satilite dish for our upcoming vacation. Is there a cheaper way to go this time around? Where can we get one of the mini dishes that set up on a tripod?

We got a dish on the tripod,and it is a pain to set everything. Two times out with that and we got the tailgater . Tailgater is super easy,point the handle north and it does the rest

We got the Dish Tailgater as an addon to our house account - $7/month.

The Dish Tailgater is quite easy to setup physically; however, sometimes it takes a while to get the receiver synced in to be able to get access to your regular channels for your account. The Dish Tailgater automatically seeks out the correct satellites in just a few minutes - no pointing the dish antenna.

We just set the Dish Tailgate antenna cube out on the ground in an open space or set it on top of the camper - whereever works best.

Be aware that you may have to rewire your coax cables in order to use the satellite signal. I did have to rewire the connections in the regular antenna amplifier/booster and change out the coax cable splitter in order for the satellite signal to be able to get to the Televisions. This has everything to do with the way your camper is wired and nothing to do with the satellite dish/signal itself.

You may have to trace out where your coax cables are run before you complete the rewire process. I did just that and labeled the coax cables in the process.

We had to pay for the Dish Tailgater up front; or that is what I chose to do. I don't remember if they would have put it on our bill or not.

While I was about re-wiring the antenna amp for Satellite, I went ahead and made up a dual coax/hdmi plate for the livingroom tv so that I could a) receive the Tailgater signal and pass it on to the receiver, b) send the receiver signal (via hdmi1) to the livingroom tv, c) send the aux out Tailgater receiver signal back to the bedroom, d) send the bluray signal via hdmi2 to the livingroom tv.

By connecting the aux out from the bluray DVD player (via coax) to the second coax port (previously connected to the Tailgater aux out via coax), I can send bluray movies back to the bedroom. Not that much trouble when my wife wants to fall asleep watching a movie.

I have a CATV port that runs to the TV. Can I use that port to run the signal from the Satellite (Tailgater setup with receiver)? Are there cable length issues if I placed the dish on the roof and ran down to the port on the side of the RV?

I have had my tailgater for 9 months and love it. With a satellite connection, I seldom watch the over air channels other than local weather and news.

curlyfungirl; What is your planned use and travel plans, if you plan to be away for the big cities or parks with cable, the Tailgater is a good choice. I pay for the local channels so a quick phone call to Dish and I have whatever local networks that serve the area. I also take my tailgater & receiver to my friends as the Cable does not provide certain channels such as RFD-TV, ID & such
