Hello everyone. We just purchased a new Montana High Country and found a few issues on the initial walk around. Parts are on order so we took the unit for a a could trips to find more issues. We noticed the track for the tube/shower door leaked and come to find the silicon caulking that held the track on the tube separated. I then noticed there is no silicon around the tube between the walls and tube. Is this normal? Also there is no caulking between the tube and floor. Again is this normal? We did have a few showers before noticing the leak under the track and water went on the floor and under the tube. We wiped up the water and was wondering should we be concerned with the water that went under the tube causing problems? We are bring the unit in when the parts arrive what should we expect to dealer to do?

Thanks

On many of the showers, there is no caulking in the space where the bottom of shower walls meets the tub floor. The tub floor has a lip all round it and the tub walls overlap this lip. The lip is supposed to extend far enough upward so that there is no water penetration from the water flowing down the shower walls.
Some folks have caulked this anyway but it is a common practice of Keystone just to leave the wall and the tub floor lip uncaulked.
Not sure what your dealer will do for this issue but you can always get him to caulk it while he is working on the other shower problem.

My dealer informed me that there was no caulking around the shower pan and the shower walls and not to fill the pan with water. This is the shower manufacture recommendations to let the two parts to move.

The joint between my tub pan and shower surround is not caulked either and hasn't been on the 5 rvs I have owned. I believe this is ok. As mentioned, there is an overlap between the two surfaces.

I caulked every seam and hole around our tub with almond bath/kitchen caulking. It just makes it look better, and makes me feel better. $2 well spent.

Mine came with no caulking either, and in certain curcumstances it leaked big time into the basement. So I caulked, no leak now.

Hi SARTech,

We have a 318RE also and on our first trip I stepped out of the shower to find the heater register, just outside the tub, awash with water. I dried it all out, went to the store, bought some silicone and caulked between the door track and the tub wall that it sits on. So far no more leaks. It's very disappointing to have these kinds of Quality Control in a higher end unit.

In theory, none of those places need caulk. But that is if everything is always perfectly level and draining as the engineers planned. But in reality, I don't always park perfectly level or aim the shower head where it is supposed to go and some of those joints have leaked. Some silicone solves the "reality" issues and keeps the floor and basement dry.

I found the better sealant to use is Poly Seam seal. It comes in clear and white. cleans up with water during application but when dry Will stick to anything.
