Bunkbed curtains

One of our DD (16) is a true bookworm, as in stay up till the wee hours of the morning reading, which is great, except for her reading light in her bunk also shines into the rest of the trailer....
Soooo, I thought why not get some of the track & snaps they used for the privacy screen in the front bedroom & add curtains... went down to the part dept at the dealer & they helped me order what I needed $22 plus the cost of curtains.

I used iron on adhesive to attach the snap tape to the curtains, then snapped on the white snaps & used small screws to attach the track to the ceiling.

Now the kids lights won't disturb others & they can also sleep in a bit easier.
We also added plastic hooks in the shower for wet bathing suits.

Didn't your bunks already come with the tall curtains? Mine has them, but upper and lower curtains make much more sense. Especially since we have a ladder going to the upper bunk that gets in the way of the curtain(s). I didn't know the "track and snaps" existed since ours is a different setup.

Cool idea on the shower hooks for suits. That'll save me a trip outside with dripping suits.

Ours didn't come with any curtains. When we looked for the track there looks like there are a bunch of options. Those hooks have been really handy so far, I used the removable ones so I can replace them when necessary.

The hooks look like the Command designer bath series. What size did you get (medium or large)? Do you think they would hold wet towels too?

Yes they are the command hooks, I wanted to be able to remove them & swap them out with new ones if they get icky over time. I also didn't want to drill holes in the shower wall.

We used the large hooks & they hold up to 3 or 4 towels.. don't ask. :) I just remind ya'll that I have teens and leave it at that.

Another idea for the bunks: My DD12 hated the sound that the aluminum blinds makes when she rolls over at night and hits them, and I actually wake up every time, too. So I installed privacy window covering that sticks to the inside of the window. We pulled the aluminum blinds all the way up and problem solved. Light still shines through, but no one can see her inside the bunk.

Thanks, I wasn't sure which size. I was thinking about getting the brushed nickel ones to hang up on the bathroom wall. I didn't even think about putting them inside the shower.

That's a great idea, I've been trying to find an option to replace those blinds, we get the same complaint. I found some of the clothe accordion blinds (like are on the slide windows) but they won't work for what we want. Do you have pictures? What kind of covering did you use? (tx)

As I was reading the lead-in sentences to your initial post
My brain snapped back to my time in the Navy and the 'Rack
Curtains" that we had to give ourselves a minimum of privacy.
Allowed us to sleep while the lights were on in the berthing
compartments and read when the lights were off (like your DD).
Looks like you did a very good job.

Thanks Hankeye, my son is also in the Navy. He is currently still finishing his 3rd school then will be assigned to a sub, so he will probably get some experience with those racks. :)

Here's the picture from the inside. We opted for the privacy option that replicated what is covering the door. I took down the window topper so that you could see that the blinds are still there, pulled in the upper-most position (as when traveling). I took the plastic rod off and placed it on top out of the way so that it doesn't rattle.

I may later replace the topper with a darker curtain to block the light, but for now my daughter prefers it this way.

I purchased the product at local home improvement store, and followed instructions. Other than the tight quarters, it was fairly simple. Be sure to buy the installation kit that goes along with it. I will post product name when I get home from our camping trip. And I'm not sure why the picture posted upside down!

For keeping my bunk windows dark, I used the existing top curtain rod that's used for the valence and hung blackout curtains. I got one panel from Bed Bath & Beyond and cut it across the middle. The curtain can hang from either end, so it became two curtains. Hemmed them and they work well. Now the mini blinds are retracted full time so they don't get bent (or make noise).
