We are getting a new 5th Wheel (Cougar 333MKS) which has a 50 Amp power cord. Basically the only real difference that I can see from our X-Lite 26SAB is that the AC is 15,000 vs the 13,500 in the X-Lite. So can I plug into a 30 AMP shore power using a converter plug? The dealer says “no problem” because the 50 Amp is there only because that 5th Wheel is wired so a 2nd AC unit can be installed if desired.

We have a 50amp fuzion and we use the 30amp plug in when we have to.
So yes you can plug a 50 into a 30.

I used this one http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/50-amp-125250v-rv-female-to-30-amp-rv-male-pigtail-adapter-with-pull-handles/69613

I also run the trailer off the 30amp generator and use this one http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/50-amp-125250v-rv-female-to-30-amp-4-prong-twist-lock-male-generator-adapter/69592

That's pretty much correct, with the understanding that you accept the limitations of the 30 amp service... I'd rather use the 50 amp and be able to use more than one appliance at a time... i.e. the A/C and the microwave or the dw's hairdryer...

Thanks, that is what I thought. I have no intention of NOT using the 50 Amp but just wanted to be prepared should I run into a situation where it is not available.

30amp will just limite you to what you can run all at one time.:D

Hello everyone, I've never posted anything before but I just bought a used Keystone Fuzion 310 and thought I'd ask a question about 30amp vs 50amp service. The coach has a 50 amp service inlet, and I know there are 50 to 30 converters, my question is, does the 30 amp still allow you to power everything in the coach if you attempted to? I believe 50 amp is 4 wire and 30 amp is 3 wire, so I think that means that the 4 wire grabs 2 hot wires, 1 neutral wire, and ground, while 30 amp would take 1 hot, 1 neutral, and 1 ground. I'm assuming that if it pulls only one hot then only half of the load center is powered on the coach. If this is the case then does that remove some appliances from having power, i.e. one air conditioner?

Welcome to the forum !!

Using a 30A service in a 50A coach will still provide AC power to everything, but your limited to 30A TOTAL power. 50A is 2 legs of AC, 50A each side for a total of 100A.

With that in mind, just be careful what your using while plugged into 30A service.

OK, thanks for the quick reply, wish I had a schematic for the coach, I haven't checked yet, but do you know if Keystone provides a schematic for the coach? I didn't receive one with my information.

Riley,

Welcome to the forum. There's a lot of "schematic related info" to be gleaned from posts and threads on these webpages. So "some" information is available, but it's up to the individual owner to piece it together to solve their curiosity or their particular problem. Often, posting a question about the specific issues you're having will help get you answers from owners who have had the same (or similar) issue.

To answer your question: No, Keystone does not make any electrical schematics, plumbing runs, structural blueprints or other "build data" available to owners. They consider that "private, corporate data" and don't share it publically. Right or wrong, that's been their choice since they first started building RV's and as much as they've been criticized, cajoled, pleaded with and demanded from, they haven't changed their position on providing the information to owners or even to dealers.

So, you won't find schematics or blueprints for Keystone RV's, and if you should happen to "hack into the goldmine" you'll be in a position to make a fortune sharing/selling the information to the rest of us.......

Riley,

On the 30A vs 50A question;

As Chuckster said, you are looking at 30A incoming vs 100 AMP when comparing the 2. The 30A to 50A adapter just takes the one 30A leg and splits it off in the adapter to feed both legs of the 50A so you don't have 1/2 of the AC services in the trailer dead - you are still limited to 30A. Another way to look at the 30 vs 50 input is in watts: 3600 vs 12,000 (numbers from memory but I believe they are correct). That will give you a different reference if you need it at some point.
