Trunnion lubricant?

I'm curious what others use to lubricate the trunnions on WD spring bars. Please reply to let me know what you use, where you get it, and how you carry it without it getting all over everything.

I use silicone spray. Others seem happy with it and it's not messy. Heck, someone here even uses liquid dish soap.

I researched this question on the Net and found that for the Spring Bars I use White Lithium Grease as it is reported to do the job, its only problem is heat which would allow it to melt away so I do not use it on the ball. For the Ball I use Automotive & Industrial wheel bearing grease, as this is heavy grease that will not ware off the surface in hot weather. The bearing grease is heavy and dark, easy to get on cloths so it is best to put on the ball just before hitching, when I unhitch I wipe the ball clean so as not to get it on clothing while moving about the trailer and hitch. The Lithium grease is also easy to wipe off when handling the Spring Bars and reapply when ready to use again. Both items are sold in auto parts stores or in most large stores that have an automotive department.

The White Lithium Grease comes in small tubes and is easy to carry in trailer, the wheel bearing grease I take a big glob of it and put in a small plastic food container and replace as needed.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease. Nasty, nasty, nasty, but it does its job...

I'd be the dish soap person. When I had a TT with a Equ-lizer hitch.
It was one of those Truck Driver tricks I learned when I was driving OTR.
Lubes really well and when you go through a puddle or rain storm it cleans
itself. It also doesn't collect huge amounts of dirt and road grime. Try it.....

I also use wheel bearing grease on the ball. I put a good amount in one of those hitch ball covers and it gets applied every time i put the cover on, plus it keeps the grease on the ball and not on everything else when not in use.

I've only greased my ball once so far, and got grease on several pairs of pants, my hands and my son's shorts. If I greased the trunions before I figure out a new system we'd all be covered head to toe in grease:o
I use Reese hitch ball grease from an online rv parts site which I cannot recall.
(we bought a shower extender and a few other items, and just threw the grease on the order)
