Raptor towing vehicle

Im not new but am rarely on this site I am looking for advice to pull our 2008 raptor GVW16500 I have a 2007 Dodge 3500 Dually with the 5.9 cummings
Thinking of changing to a Duramax, What year would be best for fuel mileage and should I make the move or keep the Dodge (with the Death Wobble) Any help and comments would be great

Had a 07 here. I installed a new steering stabilizer and no more death wobble.
Kept it till we got our 2010.

Keep the 07, death wobble is easy to fix, I have never had it but had a wandering issue. New ball joints and steering box brace fixed that.
Why switch to a Duramax, the 2013 Ram has the biggest towing rating.

I pull my similiar raptor with a 3500 duramax longbed dually. Handles and pulls well.

that was the first thing I did, then tie rod end, one ball joint , balance front tires, new shocks, steering box brace, new track bar bushings and its still there. Ive had it to 4 different garages and Im getting tired of it, I was hoping the Duramax might get me a little better mileage

I was already to buy a loaded 08 silverado, then I read where the 2011 gets better fuel mileage, also the08 had the 373 rear and I thought the 4.10 rear was better for towing. Also the Dealer said the towing capacity was 19K and the manual said 15500, the raptor GVWR is 16500 so I did not buy it. Do you know if any of this is true?

I had a 6.0L GMC gasser with a 4.10 rear end -- towed great but terrible gas mileage. Now I have the GMC diesel with a 3.73 rear end and it tows better than the gasser - especially in the mountains. Not sure about the mileage comparison but I wouldn't go back to a gasser even if it did get better mileage.

We tow our Raptor with a 08 f350 6.4 power stroke dually without any problems,We have pulled it around 10,000 miles now.:D

I'd keep the cummins and get it fixed. If your truck is sagging in the rear while towing you won't have enough weight on the steer axle and this can cause death wobble symptoms.

I can tell u right now nothing will beat the mpg of that 5.9. The new trucks with all this emissions stuff on it won't come close to that 5.9 I had a 5.9 and now have a deleted 6.7 and it still can't get close to the mpg that my 5.9 did. Keep the 5.9!

Does the truck have any lift added to it? Another contributor to the dreaded death wobble is not having enough camber in the front end. Many times, a lift will reduce the camber. I've only experienced that condition in one of my trucks, a 2003 3500. Replacing the worn stabilizer shock corrected the issue and it never returned.

I would say go with an 06-07 LBZ duramax to pull with. Have had alot of freinds with Fords and Dodges buy duramaxes to pull with now. We all pulled out of PHX AZ to Flagstaff with my camper being the heaviest and they could not keep up. Last year of the Dmax before emmisions crap and first year with 6 speed allison.

Interesting... I have owned an 05 4x4 Quad Cab LB Dually with the 5.9... and now own a 07 4x4 Quad Cab LB Dually with the 6.7... And the mileage has been identical between them. :shrug:

I've pulled the Raptor 3612 and now a new Raptor 332 TS with no problems with my 2006 Chevy Duramax, Allison, Crew Cab, long bed, dually 4X4. I don't know any difference because I've never had a Dodge. Works for me up and down mountains.

Not sure how good of mileage you are wanting. I tow our Raptor 4014 loaded down with my 07 F550 6.0 diesel with 4.88 gears. It pulls like a champ and gets about 9mpg when towing.

They complain how the mpg sucks on the 6.7. Yes it goes up after the deletes and tuner but not like the 5.9 did. Part of a cummins club here and no one can get 5.9 mileage

So if the 5.9 got 20 city, what did it get on the highway... Also the difference from a cost standpoint on 20vs16 mpg on 30k miles per year is $1500.
