Adjusting Hitch Height

Is it wrong to adjust the height of the 5er hitch, to the last set of adjustment holes to get the 5er to ride level or maybe when unloaded a little high? You can see by the picture that the back of the 5er rides a little high, and this pic was taken right after delivery unloaded...

When loaded, both the truck and RV should sit as close to level as is possible. When I installed a different pin box, I had to readjust the hitch to its lowest position to enable the two units to sit level. The hitch is now positioned on its lowest and last set of holes and I have not noticed any problems. As long as the holes line up and you are using the proper bolts and correct torque, everything should be fine.

Having the 5th wheel sit level allows the weight to be better evenly distributed between the two axles.

Thanks, I recently had a Mor/ryde pin box installed, and I really want to make sure the 5er is hitched level... I guess I need to hook everything up and take her for a drive... and adjust from there...

As you have probably noticed, the rear of the truck will sink somewhat when you take the weight off the landing jacks and lower the nose of the 5th wheel onto the hitch. Of course, the front of the 5th wheel will also lower along with the truck. It is in this "hitched up" position that you will need to determine whether or not the loaded 5th sits level.

So, loaded and hitched up if the 5er sits low in the front, and the bed of the truck sinks slightly, it is reasonable to move the hitch adjustment up a hole to accommodate?

Regardless of the height of the hitch, your truck (and hitch height) is still going to sink a bit when the 5th is lowered onto it. You can't do much about that other than by adding air bags or something similar.

Judging by your TV, it shouldn't drop that much when you lower the 5th wheel onto it.
It isn't always possible to get the two perfectly level but the objective is to get them as close to level as you can. If this requires moving the hitch up a notch/hole, I'd try that, stand back and see what it looks like.

I know it's a bit time-consuming to make the hitch adjustments but once you have it the way you want it, then it is set and you don't have to bother with it any more.

Air bags are a huge help. For about $300 they will make for a smooth and level ride! :)
