Bar in Rear Bumper?

Between the spare tire and the rear body of my '95 Cougar TT, there's a "mystery bar".
It looks like maybe 1"-2" square, has an eyelet on one end and is held down by a wrap-around cotter pin.
(I have a pic if needed.)

Any ideas what it is and/or what it's for?

I am guessing that you have a slide-out bumper and that that bar is the up-right support Keystone calls a bike rack. A photo would help, Hank

Yup, that's what it is! For the OP, if you look under the trailer, there are two pins, one on each side that hold the sliding tray in place if you remove the pins, the tray will slide out about 18 to 24 inches. The bar you asked about can be set in the vertical position to support bicycles, etc.

Oh yeah, if you use the slide out bumper rack, be sure to replace the pins after sliding in or out.

Well, I'll be dipped - after looking underneath, that's exactly what I have!
I was wondering about bringing my bike with me...

I really like the pull out bumper, I set up the bar and believe that it is just a anchor point, not much use as a bike rack. I am going to get a receiver mount and bolt it on the bumper (about 25.00) and attach a bike rack to it faceing the trailer so than the bikes are sittting on the bumper rack and held in place by a good lockable bike rack and not use that bar for that.

I wrap a foam pool noodle around it and use ratchet straps to hold the bikes. My spare tire lives under the hitch in the truck bed so there isn't so much weight bouncing back there.

Raytronx, I like your bike rack idea. I was thinking the bikes needed a post to hang on but, I can see they do not. Simple is good, no season to mount something else to hold 2 bikes. With the miles you have traveled, it is safe to say they stay on pretty well. I to will remove the spare and place it in truck bed.

X2 on removing the spare .... it bounces too much and stresses the welds.

Raytronx, I like your bike rack idea. I was thinking the bikes needed a post to hang on but, I can see they do not. Simple is good, no season to mount something else to hold 2 bikes. They are attached really solid, 4 straps. 1 through each tire and 2 through the bikes and the tire holder presses them against the pole. They aren't going anywhere even if a couple straps break.

I had the slide bumper on my North Trail, I mostly only used it when at the site, it was a great shelf to store the store or grill on whn not in use.

Never thought of this, but I really like this idea. Keep stuff off the ground and where the dogs can't get into it.
