The running/marker light circuit on my rig has been acting up and very intermittent. I could never seem to find the fault because it would work fine at the campground and only sometimes act up.

When it was bad it would blow a fuse in the truck. I finally found it. It started to act up consistently when hitched. When I would raise the hitch and take the weight off the truck it would work, lower the trailer back on and the lights would go out.

The wire leading from the front driver side running light to the other side runs through a empty space above and forward of the front storage and had worked its way between the frame and the front siding. When the weight was on the truck I guess it was enough to pinch this wire and short it out.

Weird one.

Good job! Glad you found the culprit... those lil things can be so tricky to figure out when they hide behind walls....

I'm so happy to find it. I'm in foggy Oregon on the coast and really need my lights to work properly.:)

Such a weird one I decided to write up a blog post (http://loveyourrv.com/finally-i-solved-the-case-of-the-intermittent-trailer-running-lights/)

May save a fellow RVer some grief down the road.

I am having the same problem, at first it was every now and then and now it seems to be constant. I know for sure it's the trailer as I have tested it using the fuse to jump the marker to the hot wire on the pig tail. I checked for the wire in the cargo area and found it but cant see a short anywhere. was your problem close to the left or right? Was it in the middle? is there anywhere else I could check?

oregonnetwork, You might get more responses if you let folks know what year and model trailer you have.
