Reese Hitch can I still use it?

I am buying a new camper but don't want to spring for a new hitch.

My question is can I still use my old Reese Hitch? Its slated for 10K weight and has two spring bars tha are staight with a slight curve downward at the end.

Can I use the Reese dual sway control with this hitch or do I have to buy another sway control?

The camper is 4,458 dry wt.

Based on the information given, I would think you will be fine. Usually 10k hitches have a 1k tongue weight. The only question I could think of is what is the GVW of the trailer. That way you can make sure you will not be over tongue weight of the hitch. 15% of 4500 is around 650. Unless the GVW is around 7k, you should be fine with what you have.

From your description of the bars, having a curved end, it sounds like you can upgrade to the Dual Cam. All you would have to purchase is the cam bars that bolt to the bottom of your trailer frame.

Your hitch will work fine. I would add dual cam anti-sway.

If your trunnion bar looks like this, it surely is ready for the addition of the Reese DC system. The shape at the end is the detent for the cam.

You might want to check to see what weight rating your bars have stamped on them. If you have the 1,200# ones, they might be a bit much for that trailer.

And, just for grins, there is usually a good trade in swapping Reese parts. One trailer shop that I know of has a whole shelf full of used items like this and will swap them with for a small fee. Some dealerships will give you a decent credit on your old bars or parts, too.
