2010 Ram1500 Laramie towing

Hey there, just purchased a 2011 outback 270bh and was wondering if anyone else is towing a similar trailer with a Ram 1500 Laramie and how is it. Mine has the full HD tow package and the 3.92 gears and 5.7 Hemi. Trailer is 7800lbs gross weight which is well under the 9000+ pounds the truck is rated at but the payload has me a bit concerned. I will be very close to max payload but hopefully not over. Will be using a Husky 1200 WDH.

congrats on the purchase. Yeah you are going to be very close. Make sure you get a good wd hitch. I would suggest the equal-I-zer or E2 1000/10000 wd hitch. good luck

The only way you'll know for sure is load everything up for a trip and head for the scales. Weigh the whole setup, then disconnect the trailer and re-weigh the TV by it's self. Will give you all the numbers you need to see if you're over or not. Good luck

I haul a sprinter 266 that loaded up is around 8000 pds. I do not have any issues with power or sway but have the Reese straight line dual cam system. I have had to make a few quick stops with no issues. I keep the gear in the camper and not he back of my truck as the payload is tight. When I weighed it I really had it loaded up with full tank of gas and the freshwater was full which 99% of my trips it is not so I likely save a couple hundred pds there.

I was a little close with mine on payload so I ordered a set of air bags (Firestone) I put them in took 1 1/2 hrs and added 1000 lbs to the rear suspension, now I can breath easier knowing I have a little leeway and my suspension isn't being crushed. Ram 1500 sport.

I bought a airlift 1000 kit that will help better balance my system and ease some of the load but does not increase my payload.

Thanks for this reminder about air bags and spring helpers - they do not increase the TV's payload or towing capacity.

Just more curious if anyone else has the same set up as me and if they feel it works ok. I am not opposed to getting a larger truck if absolutely necessary but for the amount of time in a year my truck will be pulling a trailer I would really like to know it is capable and still have the luxury of the ride quality for all the other times its not pulling. (tx)

I did a quick search, and there are no other posts containing 'Outback 270bh' -or- '270bh'. We do have other Ram 1500 owners/members, but apparently they tow different trailers.

Although I do not tow the same camper as you my set up is very similar with weight and length. I would definitely not run out and buy a new truck until I tried your set up. I think you will be fine but that again will depend on your driving habits, (do you just need to get there or do you need to break records for time), I might add the Husky Straight Line to the WD set up.

I have a 2012 ram 1500 and tow the Springdale 282. about the same weight and size and I have no problems towing with it in fact absolutely love the way the truck Tows. Have fun and enjoy.

What is your truck Laramie, Sport? Does it have the 3.92 gears

I have a 2011 ram 1500 4x4 slt with tow package. 9100pd max, 1425 payload I think with 17" rims. Factory tow brake control as well with 3.55 rear.

Mines the Bighorn with 3.55 gears.. pulled from Vancouver BC to SanFran last June with zero problems... loved it!

I tow an Outback 272RK with my 2008 Ram 1500. Mine is a Big Horn with 5.7 Hemi and 3.92 gears. Traveled through the mountains of East Tennessee with no problem. Plenty of power. Gas mileage isn't great but pulling these big things that's to be expected.
