I'm looking to get out of the pop-up stage and into the TT.

It looks good on paper and is showing under my rating and I would get a good reese dual cam and W/D But my question is, is this to much trailer for my truck? :confused:
Is the length going to push me around? I know my engine is a turd and I won't win any races but am I a little league boy trying to play for the pros?! :banghead:

Hello - A quick question .....

I am wondering how you determined that the Passport, fully-loaded, would weigh 7300 lbs. Is this an estimated weight or listed "dry weight" since I note from the New Member Check In that you are "eyeing" this RV and haven't yet purchased it?

I don't remember the exact number on the sticker when I went up to see at lerchrv but I did just do the quick math(not the greatest either) to see the ballpark I would be in. I feel like such a noob when it comes to this stuff. :o

Hi we pull our 2510 passport with a 1/2 ton silverado 6.2 liter max tow package a little shorter and lighter than the 2910, My truck is rated for 10,700 max trailer weight, But personaly would not ever try to pull that kinda weight with my truck, with a 1/2 ton you really have to watch the payload on the truck, My 2510 loaded with a half tank water is right around 5800 pounds 800 hundred of that is tounge weight, you will need to crunch numbers on your truck, rear axle weight occupants full tank of gas ect, hope this helps.

Same GVW as my trailer. Your dry is about 500 lbs more, but carrying capacity is about 500 less.

What's the cargo capacity of your truck? If I really load the bed and tow with a full tank of fresh water, it'd be too much. But I don't.

I have 3.73 with Max Tow and it's a breeze to tow. Length-wise, yours would be about 3 to 4 feet longer. You might feel a tiny bit more sway, but I don't have any issues with the minimal amount of sway I get. Just make sure you get a decent hitch setup, like Reese, Equalizer, or the arm-and-a-leg Hensley/Propride.

In my book you look good, very similar to me. Just watch the payload of the truck so you don't go over.

I agree you are OK but the payload is what you really have to watch. You could have upwards of 1000 lbs of tongue weight. What is the trucks payload? The 5.4L in that vintage is fine and can run endlessly at high RPM's to make power. The Reese Dual Cam would be a great WD/sway control hitch for that set up just be sure you properly size it for the tongue load. You're going to have a blast coming from a PUP to that trailer.

My payload is 1560. Most of the places we currently go to that do not have water, have a spot to fill the belly after you checked in. I do load all my gear in the back of the truck but that is only because I don't feel like cranking the pop up to load it, all of that stuff would have a place in the new camper. So the only thing in the back would be firewood. Thank you guys so much for your insight I was starting to think that I should look for a different model. It will be a blast I can't wait for the first trip in the middle of april(with the new camper or not!)

I've got the same truck and my trailer is 6300 dry 7700 loaded. 800 tongue weight. It works, but it's as much as I would ever want to tow with it. I'm gonna put some super springs on the back to alleviate the squat. 10 ply tires and a cold air intake, exhaust and tuner help things out too.

I had a 2000 Ram 1500 when we bought our 2910BH. When I weighed it loaded for camping the camper weighed 6900 lbs with empty storage tanks, 300 under that trucks tow rating, with plenty of storage space left. The combined weight without fire wood in the bed was 1300 lbs over the 12500 GCWR.As the others have said watch your weights. The dual cam will take care of it wagging the dog. After a year with the Ram struggling to get up the mountains I traded up to a bigger TV. You may be within your weght limit of your truck,but in my experience, your truck will work hard to tow it.

Well not really if my truck can haul it that is fine, if the boss isn't happy with it climbing the mountains especially up to the PA Grand Canyon then it wouldn't be a fight to jump up into the SD series. :party: But starting truck payments over again UGH :banghead:

Yep. I feel your pain. My ram was paid for too.It wasn't really up to the task and we had a trip to Florida planed. I would never have made it through WV. I found the SD for a good price with 20K miles so I jumped on it. Wow, what a difference! I'll never go back to a half ton.

I don't have enough experience to weigh in, but wanted to say how smart you are for asking this before buying.
If I had done the same I'd either be driving a 2500 w/Hemi or pulling a 29'.

Cause many of us don't plan on buying a truck when we show up to the rv dealership. When I can afford a new pickup, I will upgrade accordingly. In the mean time it does the job.

I agree completely and I don't believe my wife and I will be anywhere near the 1800 lbs carrying capacity. With the dry weight around 5300 and not filling the tanks I'm thinking I should be closer to 6000 as well if not just slightly above. The price of some of those new campers should come with a TV lol :)

That is a bit short for what you are towing, but if the Dual cam is set up properly it should help control sway and keep you straight. At the end of the day only you know how much your truck is strugling or not, and how much safety margin you want. By the way, the 2910 BH is a great camper. We love ours.

I baseically have the same truck and a 2880BH passport -- I am considering upgrading to a larger F250 and reeese dual cam system -- when my truck is empty in the bed i get pushed all around the road.
