I was given 2 brand new 12v rv batteries. They are from a commercial application and weigh about 45 lbs each. Would mounting both of these on the front tongue cause any problems weight wise? I wanted to install them in series.

I would imagine if mounted equally distanced from center, the only problem would be an additional approx 90 pounds added weight. I won't get into the math of it all, simply because I can't put it as eloquently as the other more experienced fellas here. Maybe someone will be able to add some math, but you'll need to give more info about the setup I think.

1 additional battery shouldn't be a problem if mounted properly. Just have to watch your tongue weight and tow vehicle but you shouldn't be towing that close if 45 lbs makes a difference.

gregsimard -
Why would you want to install 2 - 12v batteries in series? By installing them in series, do you mean mounting them in a certain way ... "in series"????

If you hook them up in series, you will end up with 24 volts not 12! Wiring them in parallel will provide you with 12v - the correct voltage for RV systems.

In my original post I meant to say hooking the batteries up in parallel. Sorry if I caused some confusion. I am just concerned about the weight.

If you are replacing the existing battery with 2 new batteries than the difference in weight is only 1 battery. Like I posted earlier if you are worried about an additional 45lbs of tongue weight then you must be on the edge of being over weight for your TV???

You don't have your T.V. up but as stated by other's, 45lb's is nothing, I have two 6volt batters.
