Camp fires

Just wondering if camp sites have a problem with burning cut up pallets. I spent a lot of money last week on their bundles of fire wood. $5.50 a bundle is crazy. I have the opportunity to get a bunch of pallets.

We take cut up pallets all the time. Most of the time fire wood is banned in certain locations because of insects that are in or just under the bark. Pallets are clean wood. We do it all the time although we haven't run into a campground that bans out of state wood. If they have fire wood restrictions, you could call them first. I have heard of some accepting lumber and pallet wood even if under fire wood restrictions..

I go "dumpster diving" at construction sites and get untreated lumber. It is dry and burns clean and is free. I havent had a campground complain or question it yet. I make sure there are no nails in the wood. Also check your local Home Depot. They have wood cutting and usually discard the scraps. I have gotten a couple trash cans full from them before.

The wood I use our drop offs and scrap from my winter wood working projects. The wood is quarter sawn white oak, I never had any issues when using this at campgrounds.
