Talking 2 Cents Worth

Canadian forum members will no longer be able to offer their "2 cents worth" on this forum. We are now penniless as a result of today's announcement by our government that it will no longer make any more of these coins. Apparently, it costs 1.6 cents to produce and is only worth 1 cent.
But I am fortunate enough to have a jar full of coppers stashed away somewhere so I am still able to post until I have used up all of my "2 cents worth".
From now on, you can expect to hear "That's just my nickel's worth" from your northern neighbours.

Now I’m just not sure what you mean. Is 2¢ worth actually 3.2 cents? Or is 2¢ worth actually 1.2 pennies? And how much is a nickel really worth?

What are we supposed to do with all the sayings?? "A penny for your thoughts" ...... "Penny wise and dollar foolish" ..... "Pennies from heaven" ..... Does this mean that the girl on "Big Bang Theory" will have a different name when shown in Canada ????? You know they will round prices "UP" to the nearest nickel. OOOOH! It's been a long winter, Hank

Hank --- My thoughts will now cost you a nickel, not a penny less! Prices will be rounded up or down to the nearest nickel but I am betting my jar full of pennies that they will be rounded up and not down .

How much is our nickel worth you ask? Not worth a plugged nickel! Until today's decree, it was worth 5 cents but now our cents are worthless. You figure it out - it's far too complicated for me. None of it makes any cents.

You're right, Hank. It has been a long, long winter.

Festus2, Howdy;

Back in the early 70's the Italian Gov'mt. decieded to stop minting 5 & 10 Lire pieces (the neichi and dieaci[sp?]). They were made of aluminum, so light in weight that you colud float them [on water. At the time $1.00 = 625 Lire. 1000 L was roughly $1.25. The shopkeepers would give out hard candies for change instead ....
Made it easy to convert K/hr to mph and the other way too.

And you told me a few months ago that I was inputing to much when I said I'd put my nickle in. Even when I told you I was attempting to allow for exchange rates and inflation .......

Predictions from Calgary

Hmm, could the demise of the Canadian penny have been foretold by the destruction of Calgary's historic (94 year old) Penny Lane Mall?

The new Eighth Avenue Place building was just finished (a 50 story building comprised of two towers constructed on the former Penny Lane site), and now the Penny is gone?

Hmmm, strange but true!

I guess I will have to change to ....JM2¢US, Hank ..... for now anyway.

There is news from CBS that the girl from Big Bang Theory will be changing her name for Canadian viewers from Penny to Nichole.

Okay cents we are trying to mades cents of this (huh) I am from Illinois you know the famous state for the guy with the head on the penny. Okay we are know for a few other things as well. While you people or talking cents did you that now in Illionis it costs you $ 2.00 dollars to have an opinion and or yes it is taxed. So be glad if someone even wants to make cents of anything. Just my 2.00 dollars worth and I not telling the state I did it they will just have to wait for me to pay my taxes.
