Dometic 9100 Power Awnings or Weather Pro Awning Recall

Let's see if this copies/pastes in legible format. Got an e-mail yesterday through GoodSam about a recall that is in the works. It affects some Springdales, anticipate the same awnings were OEM on other models.

An NHTSA Recall was found for your vehicle.

NHTSA Campaign ID: 13V155000

Manufacturer: Keystone RV Company
Model Year: 2013
Make: KEYSTONE
Model: SPRINGDALE
Recall Date: 20130423
Component: EQUIPMENT

Potential # of
Units Affected: 6561

Summary:

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 recreational trailers equipped with Dometic 9100 Power Awnings or Weather Pro awnings, awning serial numbers 306xxxx through 314xxxx, manufactured between February 13, 2013, through April 9, 2013. If the awning installation sequence was not completely followed, the awning motor may unknowningly become damaged. A damaged motor may lead to an unfurling of the awning.

Consequence:

If the awning unfurls unexpectedly either in transit or while parked, it may increase the risk of personal injury or a crash.

Remedy:

Keystone will notify owners and dealers will replace the awning motor, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in May 2013 (edit: Hope they mean 2014!). Owners may contact Keystone at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone's campaign recall number is 13-193. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. 000054336001751811000000329

Safe travels.

Pretty sure they meant 2013, seems like I heard about this about that time.

There is an another thread started out there referencing the same subject. Included is a link to a PDF file listing those trailers, years, and Dometic model numbers along with additional information

http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/index.php

Hopefully I pasted this link correctly if not can be found using search "Montana Motor recall"

The official Keystone documentation for the Dometic awning recall can be found here: http://www.keystonerv.com/customer-s...-notifications When you open the page, go to the Springdale recalls and it is the last recall on the chart, but the document reflects every Keystone brand that is affected.

The affected RV's by brand name (Alpine, Springdale, etc) and by serial number range are listed in this document. There are 25 different Keystone brand names affected by the recall.

The original notification date was May 2, 2013 and it does affect 2013 and 2014 year model RV's.

Checking to see if your RV is included in the list of affected RV's might be a good idea.

Our awning motor was replaced last fall. The selling dealer didn't want it towed to their dealership ,so they came to our house and repaired it. Took two guys about half a hour.

Before I go over to the storage area, where is the serial number located?

The dataplate with model number and serial number is on the roller tube. You need to completely unfurl the awning to see it.
