Grease Gun

Looking for a portable grease gun for the wet bolts. Any recommendations?

I really like my battery powered grease gun. It was around 65 at tractor supply. Well worth the money.

I originally got a one handed grease gun for the rig, thought it would be good for greasing the EZ Lube axle bearings. It ended up working very well for greasing the brakes instead, but was too hard to work on the zerks of the suspension. Ended up getting rid of it and went with a good Lincoln grease gun that needs two hands to pump, and I can now get enough pressure to get grease into all the wet bolt zerk fittings, and the bearings are now greased the old fashioned way.

What Bob said; his whole post! Don't grease the EZ lube zerk on the end of the axles. And buy a quality two-handed gun or it will seep oil from both ends.

I have been thinking about a battery operated one. I have not seen the two handed type so I will have to check them out. The problem I have had in the past is keeping the hose on the grease fitting while I pump.
I never use a gun on the axles, always hand pack.

Harbor Freight (I know, I know) has a couple of lever action grease guns ranging from $15-25 and a couple of pneumatic grease guns ranging from $20-30. A couple of years ago I bought the $30 pneumatic grease gun. I store it in a homemade holder I built out of an old piece of 3" PVC pipe and a spare PVC end cap. While the grease gun does leak during the summer, storing it in the PVC pipe mounted on the wall in my workshop, I've never had any issues with it making a mess. As for pressure to inject grease. It has never failed to easily lube any and every zerk I've used. Bronze bushings on RV suspensions are difficult to grease, but a pneumatic grease gun works every time for me.

I've never used a battery powered gun, I suppose it would also work well, but grease and electricity (even a battery) seems like an easy way to make a mess around the charger.... YMMV

My Harbor Freight pneumatic grease gun is about 3 years old. So far it's OK. Just use it on the wet bolts 2 or 3 times a year. Must be that WalMart marine grease I have in it. LOL

The battery operated one leaves one hand free to hold the hose on to the grease zerk

For those that insist the EZ lube is the best way to lube bearings just use caution when/if pumping with a pneumatic or battery powered grease gun as you can't control the amount of grease or pressure using either so it can blow past the seals easier than the hand operated. Either would be great to use on the suspension components.

Since I carry a compressor on board it looks like I would be better off with a pneumatic gun to grease the wet bolts.

Not trying to sway your buying, but the HF $30 pneumatic grease gun produces 3600 PSI of grease pressure with a max of 90 PSI of air pressure. I've never had an instance where I couldn't push lube grease into a zerk with my HF grease gun. https://www.harborfreight.com/air-gr...ose-68293.html With the 20% coupon, price is even better LOL

How often you planning on greasing them?
But....was it you planning a trip to Alaska? In that case yeah.

Maybe you need a coupler that is adjustable. Cheap couplers don't cost much, a good adjustable is only a few dollars.

A while back, I discovered that most standard grease gun nozzles are adjustable. I was having trouble getting them onto the zerk, then couldn't get the nozzle off again. In the photo, the knurled part of the nozzle can be turned to adjust the tightness on the zerk, so it stays while applying grease, then can be loosened to remove. Yep, that would be us going to Alaska. From what I see looks like I will make a visit to HF.

Just a note some grease gun tips you can screw off tip and reverse the jaws inside for a better fit. They do wear and get bent from pulling on and off

Battery Operated Grease Gun

I bought this for greasing my tractor and trailers. A bit heavy (Battery + Grease tube), and expensive, but really saves time, and needless pumping. I see that there is a 20 volt model now, but 18v works just fine.

I have ran heavy equipment all my life,, and greasing your wheels 3 or 4 pumps should be plenty, think of a old car you run it thousands of miles and never touch the bearings,, pumping too much can blow the grease seal so do it easy. As far as keeping the hose on the zerk, you can get someone to help you or what I have found many times is replaced e the grease zero and problem solves.
