Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

Just received our letter today (in Canada).

Although the website does not list the recall for Passport Elites, they too must be included in the recall.

Based on the wiring diagram (located on inside cover of the control box) the wiring should be:

red,red/white, black and orange in four wire plug going into control box

1. Red 12v + connects to 12v + power from panel (purple/white wire)

2.Red/white 12v + connects to 12+ of T-stat (purple wire)

3.Black 12v - connects to 12v - from panel and 12v - from the T-stat (white wire from panel and blue wire from T-stat)

4.Orange common connects to T-stat common (tan wire)

My wiring is as follows:

1. Red, red/white,purple/white and purple are all tied together.

2. Orange is connected to tan

3.Black is connected to white and blue.

It looks like this might be the wiring issue in the recall.

You might want to look at the wiring diagram.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

I received the recall letter today. My dealer is 3 hours away and I am in the same boat as other members. 5 minutes of A/C service for 6+ hours of my time and the cost of fuel. I'm hopeful to find a youtube video by spring before camping season.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

I called my dealer today they said the same thing literally 5 minute repair here's the kicker " if you need it ". So i guess it depends on what your wiring looks like i haven't seen mine yet but i'm having them install a slide topper for my slide out so when it goes in for that they are going to do the recall. I'm lucky my dealer is only 35 minutes from my seasonal site so it's not a big deal for me but if it was 5 hours i'd be pissed. I'll try to see what they do if i can when i am there and possibly tape it going to be taking it in sometime in November.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

Follow Up: I have a 2013 Premier 22RBPR and I corrected the wiring to match the diagram on the control box. The thermostat is a Dometic Single Zone LCD. After correcting the wiring the AC functions the same as before with no other issues. I am assuming that this is the issue that the recall is addressing.
I hope this helps.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

Thank you Firedog.

Simple enough to remove the red & purple/white from the red/white & purple wires and reconnect the wire pairs with smaller connectors.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

My VIN is not included although Keystone sent a recall notice. I am wondering if this list is complete? I will make the call.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

Took mine in back in October for the recall. Dealer had to take pictures to document.
Pictures were taken of the wiring when cover was removed to show how it was connected. Also needed to record model number & serial number at the time of service.

Mine was ok. The tech told me some were wired incorrectly.
And yes it's takes less than 15 minuets to check so it's worth the trip to be safe.

Re: Passport & Bullet Recall

I did this modification myself also based on the help here - thank you! It's a good idea to get it done or do it yourself because the problem has to do with that very small thermostat power wire being powered directly from the 15 Amp DC power line to the air conditioner control module. I can only assume that the dedicated thermostat power line coming from the AC controller is more current limited and tiny wire gauge friendly. I'm surprised their installation people didn't catch something like this at the design stage. It's not a major issue but like someone said, it could be a problem if the thermostat or it's wiring were compromised.

If you can wire a light socket you can do this fix yourself in about 15 minutes or less. Just remember to pull the DC fuse to the air conditioner so you don't risk blowing it while the DC power wire is exposed.

De-winterizing the 2014 31BHPR and am preparing to do this fix.

I just want to make sure before I start trying to remove panels. The wiring issue is situated above the vent/cover in the roof of the trailer under where the AC is situated on the roof. Is this correct?

The wires/connectors are accessible once the a/c cover with the foam pre-filter is removed from the underside of the a/c at the ceiling.

My dealer did mine but I'm still not sure it was done right. I need to find that schematic and look at it again.

The pictures are in post #46 and the schematic is post #47 on page 5 of this thread. Be careful with the schematic since it has a wire crossing another that can be easily missed.
